This is where Apple has what they see as an advantage on Android: Apple controls OS and hardware, can really push the new display tech as being a killer feature. Google controls OS but not the entire product.
iPhone OS 4 will automatically render apps to take advantage of Retinal Display. Jobs suggesting that devs retool apps to take advantage of new display nonetheless.

The demo of websites on the new iPhone just failed hard. Jobs is not happy - you can feel his energy drop. The new iPhone 4 cannot connect to WiFi or cellular. #FAIL
Jobs is showing off the retinal display in a side-by-side with iPhone 3GS via a special projector. In all honesty, you can see a difference but the demo is not so impressive. The big screen is not the venue for this.

Showed a funny video of international iPad launch. A PR rep told me the Japanese launch was a crazy, crazy scene. Now Jobs is showing off all kinds of iPad apps, including the Wired magazine with a giant Pixar front cover story.
Evidence the iPad is magical: Email from a user who picked up a girl in a cafe b/c she was interested in his iPad. 2 million iPads sold - one every three seconds. That's insane, folks.
Conference sold out, 5,200 attendees, etc etc. Don't forget, this is a developers' conference, not just a media event. That said, here come the iPad stats.

What's ironic is that I'm using a Sprint HTC EVO 4G as a hotspot for this liveblog. My camera's EyeFi card wouldn't work with the in-house WiFi, so I went EVO instead.
The crowd just started cheering randomly. Apparently some dude in the back was holding up his iPad. Now they're asking us to turn off our cell phones and PDAs. I have no idea what a PDA is, unless they mean the Interpol song.

So I was supposed to do a Fox Business Live interview to preview the keynote, but Apple informed me that livestreaming was not allowed. We did a phone interview instead, me crammed into the waiting area with other press and special guests of Apple. I had my earpiece in one ear and my finger jammed into the other ear so I could hear. SUPER pro ;-)
