We've heard in the past that the white iPhone 4 would be delayed until later this summer, and it appears the rumors were true. Apple announced today that the white iPhone 4 will be available in the "second half of July." The reason for the delay? Apple has said that the white models "have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected." The delay won't affect the availability of the black iPhone 4, so if you don't feel like waiting for the white version you can pick up a black iPhone (if you can find one). See the full statement from Apple below.
"Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4
White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."
While it's not a huge delay, it's still disappointing for customers who want an all-white iPhone 4. I don't know about you, but I'm really surprised by this news. It seems very unlike Apple, and one would assume that they would've known about the manufacturing difficulties earlier so that white models would be available at launch. Manufacturing issues can pop up from time to time, though, so I suppose we can't totally blame Apple for this news. If you're picking up an iPhone 4, are you going to wait for the white version or just pick up a black one at launch?
