Rumor: Motorola Droid 2 launching August 23rd with Android 2.2

Now that we know all of the official information on the Motorola DROID X, we just need to see some concrete info about the Droid 2. Unfortunately, we don't have any of that for you today. We do have more rumors, though! Android and Me has received a tip from a "trustworthy source" that the Droid 2 will be launched on August 23rd, just in time to pick up a new Android phone before school starts. Also, the rumor is that Motorola is working hard to bring Android 2.2 to the device at launch. As for a price? Nothing is official, but expect $199 on a two-year contract.
Considering that the DROID X launches in July, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Droid 2 launch in August for a one-two Android punch on Verizon. If Motorola can bring Android 2.2 to the DROID X by August, then I have no doubt in my mind that the Droid 2 can launch with Froyo in tow. When you also consider the fact that the original DROID launched with Android 2.0, Froyo on the Droid 2 seems even more realistic. Are any of you skipping the DROID X to wait for the Droid 2 and its QWERTY keyboard?
