BlackBerry sales strong, RIM now fourth in global cell phone race

BlackBerry Bold 9000

Most of the news may be focused on iOS and Android devices as of late, but that doesn't mean we should discount Research In Motion and its BlackBerry devices.  A new report from research firm IDC covering Q2 2010 sales numbers of the top five device manufacturers showed that RIM has moved to fourth place in the global cell phone race.  Selling 11.2 million phones in the second quarter of 2010 placed RIM just behind Nokia, Samsung, and LG, but above Sony Ericsson.  Overall, RIM showed a 40 percent growth compared to Q2 2009.

While RIM may not be all over the news with their devices, their sales are still doing extremely well.  The company is known for producing solid devices with great keyboards and email services, and all of that, along with word of mouth, is all the company needs to succeed.  It doesn't hurt that businesses everywhere issue BlackBerrys to their employees, either.
