Rumor: RIM's BlackPad coming in November for $499.99

There isn't much known about Research In Motion's BlackPad except for the fact that it (probably) exists somewhere in their Waterloo headquarters. No one is even sure if BlackPad is the actual name of the device! That hasn't stopped the onslaught of rumors surrounding the tablet, though, and today we've got some more for you. Apple Daily has heard that Quanta has earned the right to manufacture the BlackPad, with plans to produce 2 million units beginning in September with a launch in November. The price? $499.
The pricing and availability rumors definitely seem plausible. RIM would likely want to release the BlackPad before the holiday season, and $499 is the price of the low-end iPad, the product that RIM is hoping to steal sales from with its own tablet. I'm not a huge fan of the current name of the device, but with their new BlackBerry 6 OS and its more consumer-friendly interface/features, RIM may just have a hit on their hands with the BlackPad. We'll have to wait until November to find out for sure.
