Nexus One gets new FRG33 Android 2.2 ROM, speed improvements abound

The Nexus One was the first Android handset to receive the update to version 2.2, so we haven't heard much about any other new updates for the device for a while now. That changes today, as the intrepid folks over at XDA-developers have discovered a new ROM for the newest Android developer phone. With the build number FRG33, this new ROM is still Froyo-based and contains several bug fixes as well as an updated radio found in the Korean builds for the Nexus One. Some users have reported 3G speeds that are up to 10X faster with the new radio, so this is definitely a big upgrade. The ROM has been packaged up for use with any phone, but comes with a warning that installation could mess with your ability to access the Android Market. If you're feeling brave and have a need for speed, you can find the download link right here.
Even though the Nexus One is no longer available to the general public, I'm glad to see enhancements still being brought to the device. Hopefully Google pushes this new FRG33 build out OTA to devices soon, though, because not everyone is comfortable with the process of flashing a new ROM to their handset. Maybe this improved radio could even make things better for Nathan Nabors and those involved in the class action suit against Google? It's worth a shot. If you do decide to install the new ROM to your device, just remember that it's a risky process and could potentially do bad things to your phone, so be careful! To those of you that have gone through the installation process, have you noticed any improvements?
