BlackBerry Bold 9700 QNX

Research In Motion may have just recently launched their new BlackBerry 6 operating system, but the company is already looking to a future where the entire BB OS as we know it will be scrapped.  That's the news coming from BlackBerry DEVCON, as a RIM VP confirmed that the new QNX software featured on the BlackBerry PlayBook would be used in smartphones at some point and eventually replace the BlackBerry OS altogether.  Don't suddenly feel like BB 6 is a complete waste of time, though, as the RIM exec said that the seventh iteration of the BlackBerry OS would serve as a stepping stone to the new QNX-based software.

This move to the QNX operating system isn't terribly surprising considering all of the great new things that it brings to the table.  However, considering that the PlayBook isn't even going to be launched until some time early next year, I'd say that we're still pretty far off from seeing QNX running on any type of smartphone.  Do you think RIM ditching the BlackBerry OS for QNX is a good move?
