Motorola DROID Pro

Today Verizon and Motorola teamed up to announce two new phones and, while we've heard about them both in the past, one has completely caught us off guard.  That device is the DROID Pro, which features a BlackBerry-style form factor with a portrait keyboard beneath a screen.  Known specs for the DROID Pro include Android 2.2 beneath the same Motoblur found on the DROID 2, global roaming support, and a physical QWERTY keyboard that looks more than a little like the 'board found on the BlackBerry Bold devices.  No word yet on pricing, launch info, or any other specs, but we'll keep you updated.

Alongside the DROID Pro, Verizon and Moto also made the Citrus (aka WX445, Ciena) official.  Android 2.1 will be running beneath Motoblur on the Citrus, but other than that, specs are just as hard to come by as they are for the DROID Pro.  A recent rumor said that the Citrus would be sporting a 3-inch QVGA display, 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7625 CPU, 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM, and a 3 megapixel camera, but none of that has been confirmed just yet.

While the Citrus looks like a nice addition to Verizon's low-end Android lineup, the DROID Pro looks like it will have a bigger impact.  After all, there are many users waiting for a portrait QWERTY Android device that is a little more high-end than the Motorola Charm, and the DROID Pro looks like it will fit the bill.  The fact that it's global-ready is just icing on the cake, and I'm sure there are many globe-trotting Android fans that will agree.

UPDATE: Motorola's CEO Sanjay Jha just announced the DROID Pro and gave us a nice spec rundown, too.  The DROID Pro will feature a 3.1-inch screen, 1 GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, 5 megapixel auto-focus camera, and, of course, a CDMA/GSM chip for global use.  Verizon has said that the DROID Pro will be released in the coming weeks with a pricing announcement coming closer to launch.  Meanwhile, the Citrus will be released some time in Q4 2010 for an unannounced price.  You can check out both press releases below.
