T-Mobile HTC G2

After a week of working with T-Mobile's new G2 (made by HTC), we knew it had a new home as the best smartphone on T-Mobile.

It has a few issues, namely a loose hinge when held upside down and a quirk that restricts some of the 4 GB of internal storage.  But at the end of the day, it beats the Vibrant by offering a stock Android 2.2 experience, a physical QWERTY keyboard, functional GPS, and access to T-Mobile's speedy HSPA+ network.

Now that we've officially bumped it to number one, we're interested to hear what you think!  Are we on the money?  Crazy?  All of the above?  Let us have it in the comments!

1. T-Mobile G2

  • Vanilla Android 2.2 out of the box
  • 800 MHz processor is fast
  • Awesome QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to bang out long e-mails
  • Sliding mechanism is unique and works well
  • 5-megapixel camera is decent, but not great
  • Early issues with 4 GB of built in memory
  • Hinge is a bit loose when held upside down

With a stock build of Android 2.2, a 3.7-inch display, and an 800 MHz processor (don't let it fool you, it's next-generation), the T-Mobile G2 is the best Android phone available on T-Mobile.

2. Samsung Vibrant

  • Fast 1 GHz processor
  • Gorgeous 4-inch Super AMOLED display
  • Incredibly thin and light
  • 5MP camera lacks flash
  • GPS issues keep Google Maps from displaying correctly
  • Battery life isn't the greatest

With a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.1, and a 5.0-megapixel camera, the Samsung Vibrant is a great smartphone choice on T-Mobile.  That being said, the device is experiencing some GPS issues, and the camera is missing a flash.

3. BlackBerry Bold 9700

  • Roomy QWERTY keyboard is a pleasure to use
  • Thin and light
  • Absolutely fantastic battery life
  • BlackBerry platform is outdated in comparison to competitors
  • 3.2MP camera behind the times

The BlackBerry Bold 9700, available in white and black, is a fantastic device for those that e-mail, text message, IM, or do anything else that would benefit from a full QWERTY keyboard.  That being said, BlackBerry OS is outdated in comparison to its competitors, and the 3.2-megapixel camera pales in comparison to the 5+ megapixel alternatives on the market.
