Palm Pre Plus getting webOS 2 after all?

When HP took the stage two weeks ago and announced the upcoming availability of the HP TouchPad, HP Veer, and the HP Pre 3, there were still some questions regarding whether or not the Palm Pre Plus, which launched on AT&T's and Verizon's network here in the States, would see an update to webOS 2.0 some time in the future. Unfortunately, Jon Rubinstein informed all interested parties that the Palm Pre Plus just doesn't have what it takes to run the updated mobile operating system. So, that meant all original Palm hardware, which includes the Pre, the Pixi, and the Pixi Plus, wouldn't be getting the upgrade. But now, courtesy of O2 Germany's support forum, it looks like the update will be made available to the handset, just not in an over the air kind of way.

According to the site, it looks like the device will be able to get the update courtesy of HP's website. That is, if the update is ever made available. Unfortunately, this isn't a confirmation that the update is coming, but that if it does come, this is how owners of the handset will be able to get it. And while it's only appearing on O2 Germany's site now, there's no reason to think that the update won't be made available to all Palm Pre Plus devices around the globe, if and when the update goes live. But, with Rubinstein saying the hardware doesn't have the power to run it, is there anyone out there who really wants the update now? Let me know in the comments.
