Verizon Unleashed prepaid plan

It's just been a Verizon kind of day, hasn't it? After confirmation that one-year contracts will soon be going the way of the Dodo as well as news of a 16GB XOOM and upcoming Android release dates, a new leak has shown that Big Red's cooking up something big for all of its pre-paid customers. According to a document sent over the Droid-Life, Verizon is planning to offer a new "Unleashed" pre-paid plan that will offer unlimited talk, text, and mobile web (likely for feature phones), all for only $50 per month. Smartphone users interested in the plan will still need to fork over $30/month for data.

This new Unleashed plan is pretty attractive and could be an incentive for a lot of folks to go pre-paid once April 17th rolls around and Verizon stops offering one-year contracts. There's no word on exactly when, or if, this new plan will be made available to us common folk, but we'll be sure to let you know when more info is available. How does a $50 unlimited pre-paid ($80 for unlimited smartphone data) sound to all of you?

Thanks for your participation! :)

Mandi Maritt-Rucker Needs to be for smart phones too. Cheaper data plan...
Horace Muldrow Boostmobile unlimited $50 plan talk text and web the only problem no good phones but some sprint phones can be porter over to boost
Eric Armstrong yes if smart phones were at a good price
Craig Murphy Let's see, according to the article $80 a month for unlimited everything for a smartphone, no contracts, no fees or taxes, I just have to pay for the phone upfront? I'm in!!
Zach Cline And Louis you aren't getting ripped off. You get what you pay for. Quit crying idiots.
Zach Cline No Louis it's for cheap people that want a high end device but don't want to pay for it.
Marti Ruiz Yes if offer smartphones like galaxy s
Joel Harbin HECK YEAH!!
Eric Kroh YES!!
Michael Neumann If they were to generally cut it, No. But replacing it with a $50 Unlimited plan is wise idea.
Jaime Andrade @NickSaladin....truth. hahaha!!!
John Cruz No because I have a smart phone with unlimited on Verizon :)
Justin Jones I get unlimited everything on a smartphone for $60 after tax with Sprint. Why would I downgrade?
John R Hoffman Jr IF they drop the 1 year contract then they should drop the price for the 2 year contracts, other companies are offering lower rates, Verizon should either stay competitive or offer better rates to stay ahead of the rest.
Gil Batzri Who talks on the phone? 250 min. Unlimited text and Data for $50 is the killer app. Not unlimited voice. The scale tipped to data last last year.
Marti Ruiz only if include data for 10 dollar more
Dan Bird Only if it had unlimited data
Nick Saladin Life isn't fair, so let's all argue about it on facebook
Louis Agresti Jonathan,it's for people that are tired of being tied down to 2 year contracts and 100 or more monthly cell phone bills.who cares about getting aproved to be ripped off
Jonathan Narine This for people that can't get approved for their regular service Lmao
Marc Hill Depends
Justcallme Ren I would in a heartbeat. I think actually 50 is very fair for a big carrier in the prepaid department. If they allowed other verizon handsets to be used then that would be king. They are already offering androids on prepaid now (check the website) that tell you u have to have a data package. Even if it was 10 dollars extra for maybe a gig or 2 a month. thats not bad at all. I mean if you are seriously doing hardcore streaming or web browsing on a phone, use your computer. I mean most people use their data for social networking and email and maybe an occasional yotube video or something. I would tell V to let that plan roll and fast.
Calvin Tran In certain areas straighttalk is version
John Jones As said in earlier posts, It would depend on if you could add data and some nice phones.
Vonetta Chatmon Moore Depends on the phone but their service is better!!
Robert Salender #froyogate
James Gehm III It would put them back into competition with the prepaid plans if they did this, because with the other carriers out there with similar plans are kinda leaving Verizon prepaid in the dust with ATT having a unlimited talk and text for 60, Net 10 has 50, and Straight talk is 45 and that includes data. I think they need to do somthing similar to keep competitive.
Jaime Andrade If you like this idea than give me a hells yeah!!
Sachin Swami no becuase its not for smartphones
Joan Bueter depends on the phones they offer.
James Oliver If they added unlimited data for that price then i'd switch from ATT LOL, Even tho thats asking allot
