Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Verizon

Verizon Android fans with an interest in mobile gaming, your day is almost here. Verizon announced this morning that the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY will be available for pre-order beginning May 19th, aka this Thursday, for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Arriving in Verizon stores a week later on the 26th, the Xperia PLAY features a 4-inch 480x854 display, 1GHz Snapdragon II processor, 5-megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera, 512MB RAM, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Additionally, the Xperia PLAY will come pre-loaded with seven games, including Madden NFL 11, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, and Tetris, with more games available for download in V CAST Apps.

Even though we've known about the Xperia PLAY every since it originally popped up in October of last year, it's still pretty exciting to see the device finally arrive on a carrier here in the U.S. It's kind of a bummer that there's no LTE connectivity to be found on the PLAY, but the fact that it comes with seven cames pre-installed as well as Android 2.3 out of the box help make up for it. So, anyone going to plunk down their hard-earned $200 for the Xperia PLAY this Thursday?

Simon Yu
Simon Yu Carlos is right, and anyways.. it runs the same processor (2nd Gen Snapdragon) as a (current) HTC Phone and I'm sure people would prefer something like an Incredible 2 to this overglorified phone. There's many better options for the same price, if not limiting to just Verizon there's the Atrix, G2x, etc.
Trudi Walsh
Trudi Walsh Yes Yes Yes...but only if its free! LOL x

Carlos Quinones
Carlos Quinones I would want it if it had better specs. But eh, it just seems like a last gen android, but with a gaming pad. Personally, I prefer using an hdmi out on my android and thru bluetooth, connect my wii classic controller and get my android gaming done that way instead.
