Last night we learned that the HTC EVO Shift 4G could soon be getting its own update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and today Sprint has confirmed that news. In fact, Sprint did us one better by announcing that the EVO Shift 4G's Gingerbread update is available for manual installation right now, a full day earlier than the date on those leaked documents that appeared yesterday. If you don't feel like pulling down the update or just forget to, it'll be pushed out to all users beginning Monday, June 20th. In order to manually download the Gingerbread goodness right now, all you EVO Shift owners need to do is hit up Menu, then Settings, select System updates, hit HTC software update, and then select Check now. The list of enhancements and fixes included in the update is below:
- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
- Download management application providing easier access to downloaded files
- On-screen keyboard supporting multi-touch and smart auto-correction
- Improved cut/paste functionality
- Updated camera application
- Corrected streaming media issue
We may have already known that the EVO Shift 4G's Android 2.3 update was coming soon thanks to last night's leak, but it's pretty awesome to hear that those users eager to get their GBread on can do so beginning today. Welcome to the club, EVO Shift owners. Once you get the 2.3 up and running on your device, we want to hear how it's working for you!
