HTC DROID Incredible Verizon

Last we heard, the HTC DROID Incredible was scheduled to get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread before the end of the second quarter this year. Obviously that never actually happened, leaving many DInc owners wondering when their helping of Google's latest treat would come. Today we may finally know, although the answer probably isn't what most Incredible owners were hoping to hear.

According to an email from an HTC rep named Stephen, the DROID Incredible is not on the company's list of phones that will be updated to Android 2.3. Stephen explains that HTC only updates phones if the new software will improve the user experience, and if this email is to be believed, HTC doesn't believe that Gingerbread would provide enough of an improvement to the DInc to warrant an update. The full email can be found below.

This news, if accurate, is both a disappointing and a little confusing. Despite the fact that the DROID Incredible's specs can't quite stack up to more recent handsets like the Sensation or EVO 3D, the DInc isn't a slouch when it comes to performance. It's possible that the HTC rep misunderstood and is referring to a different device like the Eris. There's also a chance that we'll see a repeat of the Desire update situation from earlier this year where HTC originally said that an update wasn't coming, but then changed its mind and released a new, special update after many customers voiced their frustrations. Whatever does end up happening with the DROID Incredible, you can be sure that we'll let you know more when we do. Stay tuned!

"Dear XXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC in regards to Operating System upgrades to your Droid Incredible, XXXX.

Our goal is to give every customer the best possible experience on every phone. Every HTC phone is a combination of a unique HTC hardware and software experience and a core operating system. We only update our phones if it will provide an overall improved user experience as we balance features, performance and usability. Because of this, we will only be updating certain phones to Gingerbread. At this time, the Droid Incredible is not on that list.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause XXXX, and we hope that this does not detract from your enjoyment and use of the HTC Incredible. We deeply regret any dissatisfaction this issue may have caused. As always, we are here to answer any technical questions or concerns you have from 6am to 1am EDST, 7 days a week, or by phone at 1-866-449-8358. Ryan Etzel No it shouldn't
Ron Scott This. Gould happen to any of us smartphone users. I will explode if I have 2 years of contract left and I hear that their will be no more updates for G2x. I would never buy that brand of phone again.
Alex Barnhart Ah yeah it should I have my Droid Incredible and it would be even more amazing to get ginger bread and seeing that I don't get my upgrade for another 1 1/2 years :/
John J Volk Sure. Its got the hardware for it.
Taynia Dejesus Definitely yes
Nick Hurd Yes it should
Zach Cline Pretty much. There's no waiting on carriers with apple. As soon as the update is ready its a simple download from itunes. Google should adopt something like that, It would make updating devices a lot easier and there would be far less pissed off customers.
David Gregory my incredible is still on 2.1, can anyone help me with that? i dont want to root the phone but i would like to at least get 2.2
???? ???? ??????? I think there's some sort of conspiracy going on that Verizon phones aren't getting GB. Why is it the EVO 4G & 3D got updates but Verizon didn't get one update?
Ben Mattson It'd be nice if it did, but it's getting too old to honestly expect that it will. If you actually want guaranteed software updates into the future, and on time, buy an iPhone.
Ryan Wilson I agree with the idea that a company putting out a product with a two year agreement should keep that product viable for two years after that product is off the shelves. In the world of technology two years is a long time, especially if you're stuck watching other devices get updated while yours USED to be incredible. :)
Zach Cline But it's not getting it lol.
freakintyler Droid incredible 2 needs to get sense 3.0!
Melissa Harrison YYEEESSSSSS PLEASE!!!
Derek Nguyen This is why apple still topping the android in a unified updates, come on google we do not want to trail behind apple. Why cant all the companies use stock androids, faster updates time. Touchwiz is bad, moto platform is bad, only sense is smooth...
Skye Villanueva Yes....its incredible right!?
William Robles Absuloutly
Deepak Bhakoo No it should get ice cream sandwich :-P
Rani Hinnawi Yeah, of course. I don't see why not.
Gary Fuchs If products are going to be sold with a 2yr commitment and thus at least a 2 yr life span then certainly both the manufacturers and the software should support and update the device for at least that long.
Jose Marcano I think my droid charge should get gingerbread
Dustin Taylor What kind of question is that? Lol
Scott Thompson It should, but the real question is, will it?
Darren N Anderson COURSE. It's a quality and recent Android phone.
Danny Lall Hell yeaaAa
KC Whitfield Sense 3.0 probably want come to the dinc if anything y'all will get watered down version of sense 2.1
KC Whitfield Haha idc really I'm rooted and using a sensation rom
Noah Everett Braley YES! You know what I find funny, That every carrier makes us sign a contract for two years but if we get smart phones especially then They put our phone on the dead phone list. Before the two years are up and we stop getting updates and then HAVE to get a new phone! It's commercialism at it's finest,I'm telling you =/
Sam Platz HTC has the best android phones out there but still no gingerbread. Why??
Piero Garavito Martell come on!!!! update now!!!!
Basil Mahmud I don't own one. But if the Nexus and Evo 4G have it and have the same internals why does the DInc get it?
Jeremy Oliver I believe it should. for the average peps who dont do anything but use a stock phone.. the hardware is still plenty strong. so why not slap 2.3 on it.. oh yea because verizon wants those folk to upgrade to a newer phone. etc.. shady indeed. i can understand if the dinc was to slow to run 2.3 but its not. everyone yell at htc and verizon. even if you dont own a dinc. its just for the fact that they should regardless keep these phone up to date.
Ivan Alvarado No shit, dumbass.
Matt Potter My DINC is running CM7 right now and I've never gotten better battery life. I'm much happier with CM7 than I ever was on stock 2.2, and my phone is handling it so well that I'm gonna stick with it for the forseeable future.
Antonio Ayala Yes, update Incredible first so Thunderbolt owners can be even more enraged.
Tony Allen Ashu, millions of people bought this phone. It was sold out of stock for months and months upon release. As for the OG Dinc getting 2.3. I don't think so, I mean, with CM7, the Dinc has a few memory issues, after seeing the disaster that is/was 2.3 for the EVO4G I think end-users are better off with 2.2.
Iven TrogdorJr Jacobson Xda-developers.com the dinc already HAS gingerbread
Ricky Arrazola And when is Netflix coming to mytouch 4g
Nelson Caballero He'll no!! They should update Thunderbolt first!
Ricky Arrazola I wanna know if the mytouch 4g getting HTC sense 3.0
Don Brewer Yes, the Droid Incredible should receive get the Gingerbread update, anything to help preserve battery on the phone which Gingerbread does.
Patrycja Mazur Yes it should.
Braden Martinez YES IT SHOULD. the incredible is still a really good phone considering i dont have an upgrade for another year... :( so bring on the gingerbread!
Sean Martin I think it should, it's not like it doesn't have the horsepower. My Incredible 2 is already Gingerbready :)
Sachin Swami if you mean the droid incredbile 2 then yes
Kuba Rdzak Yeap, I think that's good idea :]
Arijit Sau PhoneDog.com when u announce the winners name of your last day event contest??
Leeann Causby Yes it would be nice
Juan Gaspar what kind of stupid question is that? of course it should!
Mark Makarov Umm, yeah that would be nice!
Ashish Upadhye no, whos gonna buy that phone ?
