Android Ice Cream Sandwich spotted running on a Nexus SAlex Wagner - Editorial Director of News and Content
Well what do we have here? You're looking at what are reportedly the first screenshots of Ice Cream Sandwich, posted by the folks at Android Police and RootzWiki. There's no version number to be found because it's said that Google has yet to determine exactly what the ICS version number will be, but we can see that this software is build number IRK36B. The OS is running on a Nexus S and, as you can tell from the images, is a tad more blue than previous versions of Android. There's an all-new launcher as well as a new notification shade that features some more blue touches, which you can see below. Other changes include:
- Camera with built-in panorama mode
- Re-themed version of Gmail
- Apps and Widgets launcher similar to the one found on Honeycomb
- Google Shopper included
- Other small UI tweaks (meaning that older devices may be able to handle the update)
The source of the images believes that the Nexus Prime will be the first to get a bite of Ice Cream Sandwich, although the Nexus S will also be getting a taste. (Neither of which would be surprising.) There's no word in these reports on when we ICS might actually see begin rolling out, but a previous report claimed that the first ICS-powered devices could arrive in October. That feels pretty far off from now, but hey, at least we've got this set of images to stare at while we wait, right?
