ZTE Fury rear

If you're a fan of Samsung's Galaxy Note and its large 5.3-inch display, you'll be glad to hear that ZTE is planning to release a similar pair of phone-tablet hybrid devices later this year. The company recently told reporters that it intends to launch two "phablet" devices before the end of this year, with Lv Qianhao, ZTE's head of handset strategy, explaining that ZTE wants "to come up with the next generation of a Galaxy Note-type product - a combo product of handsets and tablets." ZTE also plans to upgrade its existing Blade and Skate smartphone models rather than debuting completely new lines. The firm shipped a total of 15 million smartphones last year, and ZTE thinks that that number could grow to 100 million by 2015.

The Galaxy Note has been a bit of a polarizing device since its debut thanks to its large size, but Samsung recently announced that it's moved five million Notes worldwide since last October, so obviously there's demand for phone-tablet hybrids like the Note. While it's not yet clear exactly what kind of specs ZTE's Galaxy Note competitors might include or if they'll ever make it to U.S. shores, it'll definitely be interesting to see what ZTE can cook up. Would any of you be interested in a ZTE-made "phablet" device?

Jonathan Lee Christopher Ray
Jonathan Lee Christopher Ray I own an iPad and still got the note, and do not regret it one bit, if I were to redesign it I would only shrink the screen to 5.0in. Other then that minor adjustment I would make no changes whatsoever. The phablet is a wonderful idea, a smooth blending of devices.
Henry Murillo
Henry Murillo I don't wanna look like an idiot when I put that thing on my ear. People would laugh at me! I know I would lol

Ryan Worley Nope! 4.0 - 4.5 is enough! I'm not interested in carrying something any larger! I had the Droid Razr Max! Too big! I felt like I was carrying a brick on my belt!

Huey Liggins
Huey Liggins Try it before you down talk it. I'm a guy that only stands at 5 ft 3 yet the note has been nothing but good to me after dumping my iphone. The screen is perfect for Web surfing and all media.

Jody Warrick
Jody Warrick Just traded my 4s for the Galaxy Note.. I DO love the size and screen is great.. I use my phone as a tablet so it's perfect to me.. BUT I hate the studdering OS.. It is not as smooth as the iphone.. It lags a bit but It is worth it for the bigger screen for surfing the net.. We need MORE phones like this..
Liam McLeod
Liam McLeod The Galaxy Note didn't start a trend. The Dell Streak did.
William Wadsworth
William Wadsworth *doing that with thicker phones.
Davide Mazza
Davide Mazza @Brian how is the GNote horrible on battery? It has the 2nd best battery life of any android phone, the razr maxx is the only thing that beats it, and that doesn't make it better
William Wadsworth
William Wadsworth There is not excuse for small batteries in phones after the Razr Maxx. If they can make a thin phone with that big of a battery, no one should have a problem with thicker phones.
Sunny Rattan
Sunny Rattan I'm still waiting for the galaxy note. I'm talking to you Verizon!
George Isenhart
George Isenhart I cant see getting a phablet if you will because I use my phone and tablet simuetaneously, 4 to 4.3 inches works for me.

Brian Goggins
Brian Goggins Im surprised the Galaxy Note is beating the Razr Maxx in the Phonedog phone vote because I heard the Note's battery is horrible whereas the Razr Maxx battery is amazing.
