For the first time, the Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. version) was #1 on both sides of the Official Smartphone Rankings.  It was a tight competion with the GSIII beating the Apple iPhone 4S by 8 points on the expert side, and winning by one point over the HTC One X on the people's side.

So here are three of our mobile-tech experts who gave their 5 point first place votes to the GSIII.  Find out why Stefan Etienne of Laptopmemo.com, Anthony Domanico of Android and Me and Intomobile.com, and  David Beren of TmoNews all picked the Galaxy S III to be #1 below.

The Galaxy S III is the hottest Android phone on the market and my favorite. It has an AI assistant, ergonomic design, a striking HD screen, 4G LTE on most carriers, and is thin, something the One X is lacking ny a millimeter.

The One X has all the requirements to be your next smartphone: rich app library, looks, battery life, great camera, screen, and processing power. All on the fastest 4G LTE network in the country.

Apple's iPhone 4S. A product so monumental and reliable I need not explain, it's just for you to experience it.

The EVO 4G LTE is all that is great about the EVO line, only bigger, faster, and better looking.

It would be wrong not to mention Motorola. Unlike HTC and Samsung, Moto can blend the formulas from its history to make great, fast, thin, and even Kevlar-backed smartphones like the RAZR Maxx, with long battery life.

Yep, the Galaxy S III continues to reign supreme. I've had the Verizon version for about a week now, and I'm absolutely in love with this device. Everything is snappy and fluid, Touchwiz has seemingly been skinned down so that it's almost completely bearable, and the screen is superb. It's so good that I ranked it both my #1 and #2 phone for the second straight week.

The iPhone 4S stayed at the number 3 spot, as it's still an amazing device that anyone would be happy to own, at least until the next one comes along.

I must admit that I have Jelly Bean on my Galaxy Nexus, and the new operating system from Google has breathed new life into an already stellar device. Though I can tolerate Touchwiz on the Galaxy S III, stock Android will always be the way to go for me, and the Galaxy Nexus gets it first.

Finally, the EVO 4G LTE rounds out the top 5. The camera is stellar, the design with red accents looks sharp, and it's the best phone to come out on the worst U.S. network.

This was an easy week to rank some of the best devices around the market as the Galaxy S III remains the top contender for best smartphone, thanks to its 4.8' screen and 2GB of RAM. Not to be outdone is the Galaxy Nexus, which returns to the rankings with a vengeance thanks to being the only phone available with Jelly Bean.

The HTC One X and One S remain strong contenders as well and the One X is right up there with the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S III as a top Android smartphone.

The iPhone 4S is also a top 5 staple thanks to its much loved app store and excellent camera. The iPhone 4S is beginning to look a little long in the tooth, but the second-to-none camera keeps it in the top 5 for another week.
