Motorola XPRT Sprint

It's certainly been a while since we've heard anything from the Motorola XPRT on Sprint, but the portrait QWERTY phone is back in the news today thanks to the release of an update for it. Sprint has updated its support page for the XPRT, revealing an update that'll bump the device up to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The recently-released update bumps the XPRT to software version 4.5.1-110-kns-46 and, along with bringing a helping of Gingerbread to the device, also includes several bug fixes. Sprint's changelog:

  • This operating system upgrade to “Gingerbread” provides the following fixes / enhancements:

  • Email User Interface fixes.
  • Contact User Interface fixes.
  • UXD fix to color backgrounds (remove red).
  • Fix the ability to use Bluetooth car kits.
  • Improve EAS GAL (Global Address List) Search.
  • Improve EAS First Sync timing.
  • Fix Forward / Reply markers to original email. (this is if you reply or forward an email from your phone, it would not display in your EAS email account.)
  • SMS fix when using () in SMS body.
  • Bluetooth toasts when syncing contacts improved.

That's a fairly sizable list of fixes, and while Gingerbread isn't the latest version of Android, getting updated to it is certainly better than being stuck on Android 2.2 Froyo forever. If you're rocking an XPRT on Sprint and haven't yet received this update, you can check for it manually by going into Menu > Settings > About phone > System Updates > Update Motorola Firmware.
