ASUS Transformer Pad Prime

Less than a week after the Verizon Galaxy Nexus finally got its update to Android 4.1, it looks like we'll soon have another couple of devices to admit to Club Jelly Bean. ASUS today took to its official Facebook page to talk Jelly Bean for the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 and Transformer Pad Prime TF201, announcing that both tablets will be updated to Android 4.1 "soon." That's a bit of a vague window of time, but the good news is that ASUS Technical Marketing Manager Gary Key has narrowed things down a bit for North American users over on XDA Developers. Key says that the update should begin rolling out in the U.S. and Canada sometime in the next 72 hours.

ASUS is one of the companies that's known for being fairly good when it comes to pushing updates to their devices in a timely manner, and it looks like that's a trend that will continue this week. While the Transformer Pad Infinity and Transformer Pad Prime appear set to be updated to Jelly Bean around a month after the Transformer Pad TF300, there are still only a handful of devices that've been officially bumped up to Android 4.1, and so I'm sure that Infinity and Prime owners are excited at the possibility of diving into Google's latest treat by the end of the week. Of course, Infinity and Prime owners may want to hold off on donning their party hats until the Jelly Bean update actually begins hitting their devices. We'll give you a shout once it does.

UPDATE: ASUS has posted the release notes for the updates on its Campus Life website. The company says that the Transformer Pad Prime TF201's Jelly Bean update will begin rolling out tomorrow, September 27, while the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700's update will start on September 28. The changelog for the updates is as follows:

  • Upgrade OS from Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
  • Default enable System Bar Lock
  • Add Multiple Photo Selection feature
  • Support Connect Dock (Accessory)
  • Remove Adobe Flash support
  • Remove Wi-Fi Direct function support
  • Remove Press Reader*

*PressReader is still available and downloadable for free from Google Play.
