Apple iPhone 5 rear

Apple has been busy seeding beta versions of iOS 6.1 to registered developers lately, but it looks like the Cupertino firm may also be testing another new version of its mobile operating system. According to a report from The Next Web, some iOS developers have begun seeing both new iPhone hardware and iOS 7 popping up in their app logs. One such dev claims to have spotted a reference to an "iPhone 6,1" device that was powered by iOS 7. The identifiers for the iPhone 5 include "iPhone 5,1" and "iPhone 5,2."

While such appearances in records can be faked, TNW says that the app logs that it's checked show an IP address that comes from Apple's campus in Cupertino, suggesting that an Apple employee is indeed testing some new hardware and software. It wouldn't exactly be a shock to learn that such testing is underway at Apple, though those tests are likely still in the early stages since new iOS hardware and software are likely still a bit of a ways off.

Unfortunately for Apple fans, the appearances of iPhone 6,1 and iOS 7 in these app logs haven't revealed any actual information about either upcoming product. It's still exciting news for the Apple faithful, though, and it helps to kickstart the discussion of what everyone hopes to see in the next iteration of iOS hardware and software. So, are there any specific features that you'd like to see make the cut in the next iPhone and in iOS 7?
