GoSmart Mobile T-Mobile prepaid brand official

T-Mobile said last month that it planned to launch its new GoSmart Mobile prepaid brand in February, and it looks like that's precisely what the magenta operator has done. Reuters reports that GoSmart Mobile service will be available at over 3,000 wireless stores across the country starting today, Feb. 19. T-Mobile has been testing GoSmart in nine different markets since early December 2012, and since then, the service has attracted "tens of thousands" of customers.

GoSmart Mobile currently offers a trio of rate plan options to interested customers. The cheapest option comes in at $30 per month and includes unlimited minutes and texting but no data. Stepping up $5 to the $35 plan will net customers unlimited talk, text and data, but the they'll only be getting 2G data speeds. Finally, the top-end $45 rate plan includes unlimited talk, text and 5GB of high-speed 3G data, after which a user will have unlimited 2G data for the remainder of that billing cycle.

When it comes to devices, GoSmart Mobile sells two handsets on its website, which is one more than we've seen before. The operator sells the Alcatel OT 338 for $49 after rebate ($69 originally), as well as a new-to-GoSmart ZTE V768 that's priced at $99 and features a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 2-megapixel rear camera and Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Customers that'd prefer to bring their own unlocked GSM hardware onto GoSmart can purchase a SIM kit for $8.

With one plan that offers zero data, one that includes unlimited 2G data and another that adds in 5GB of 3G data speeds, GoSmart Mobile likely won't be a go-to operator for someone that's looking for a buffet with the fastest data around. However, for people that primarily use their phone as, you know, a phone, GoSmart could be an option worth looking into. The service uses T-Mobile's network, and GoSmart has a coverage map on its website so that interested customers can see if they've got service in their neck of the woods. That coverage map, as well as more information on GoSmart's plan and phone offerings, can all be found on the GoSmart Mobile website right here.
