Verizon 4G LTE Router vertical

We've seen Verizon release a number of 4G LTE hotspots to date, but today the carrier introduced a different way for its customers to get connected to its LTE network. That device up there is the Verizon 4G LTE Router, a product that can hook other hardware up to Verizon's LTE service through both wired and wireless connections. The router, which looks to be made by Netgear, can support a total of 20 Wi-Fi-enabled devices at once, and it's also got four Ethernet ports for wired connections.

Verizon says that its new 4G LTE Router is available for purchase from its website starting today, April 4, for $99.99 with a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate or for $269.99 sans commitment. It can be added to a Share Everything plan for an additional $20 per month.

It seems kind of strange to see Verizon promoting a new router, but the device could come in handy for some customers. The 20 Wi-Fi connections that the Verizon 4G LTE Router is capable of supporting is a much higher number than mobile hotspots can typically handle, and the fact that it's got four Ethernet ports means that desktops, laptops and other hardware with Ethernet ports could connect to the router if the need arose. The Verizon 4G LTE Router isn't a product that'll appeal to anyone, but for folks that want to hook a whole mess of devices up to Big Red's LTE network, this device is certainly one way to do it.
