There's been a lot of speculation recently about which manufacturer will team up with Google for the next Nexus smartphone. Many have suggested that we could see another LG-made model, but today a new rumor has surfaced that claims that 2013 could see a newcomer to the Nexus program.
Over on Google+, former Android and Me leader Taylor Wimberly says that Motorola will be launching a Nexus smartphone sometime in the fourth quarter. Wimberly doesn't offer up any other details on the device, but he does say that it won't be the Moto X.
As with any rumor, it's worth taking this new report with a grain or two of your favorite salt. There's no concrete evidence to support Wimberly's claim, but it's worth noting that he was responsible for some Moto X leaks that turned out to be accurate. As for today's rumor, the idea of Motorola working with Google on a new Nexus phone doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. So far we've seen ASUS, HTC, LG and Samsung contribute to the Nexus program, and so 2013 could just be Motorola's time to try its hand at a Nexus.
A Q4 launch for this rumored Motorola Nexus wouldn't be a shock, as Google has released the last few Nexus smartphones during the same period of time. Of course, we're currently not even halfway through Q3, so a Q4 launch would also mean that we've still got a bit of waiting to do for this new Nexus phone. If that device is being made by Motorola, though, I'm guessing that there are quite a few Android fans that would say that that wait would be worth it. Would you be interested in a Motorola-made Nexus smartphone?
