Verizon Moto X official

Ready for your own shot at the Moto X, Verizon customers? Good, because it's coming soon. Verizon just announced that it will launch the Moto X this Thursday, Aug. 29, for $199.99 with a two-year contract. However, it's worth noting that that Aug. 29 release only applies to Verizon's online shop. The carrier says that its brick and mortar stores will begin receiving units "in the coming weeks."

As you can see in the image above, Verizon's flavor of the Moto X will initially be available in woven black and woven white color options. Verizon has said that it offer customization options with the Moto Maker tool "later this year." There's also a Verizon-friendly Moto X Developer Edition on the way that will sport an unlockable bootloader for consumers that'd like to tinker with their new phone. The Developer Edition variants of the Moto X are said to be coming soon.

An Aug. 29 launch will make Verizon the second major U.S. carrier to add the Moto X to its shelves, and while it's kind of a bummer that the big red carrier's customers won't have Moto Maker available on release day, at least their Moto X launch doesn't include a months-long delay like another recent high-profile smartphone.

It's also strange to see that Verizon's Moto X will initially only be sold online. Some of the Moto X's most notable features are its compact design and software add-ons, all of which can really only be experienced by actually handling the phone. Here's to hoping that Verizon can get around to stocking its physical shelves soon.
