Did you adopt iOS 7, or ditch the platform entirely?Evan Selleck - Contributing Editor
It's been just over 100 days since Apple unveiled iOS 7 and released the beta out into the wild (for developers). Since then, we've seen iOS 7 evolve from mobile operating systems that barely worked, apps that crashed, to a system that's just as stable in its final version that iOS users have come to expect. Sure, there does seem to still be some hang-ups here and there, but we all know it'll get ironed out.
Since yesterday, iOS 7 has been available for wide distribution. No longer do you need to be a developer (or have some money to toss towards those who pay for developer support) to get Apple's next-generation mobile operating system. All the software tweaks and enhancements. The new features. And the new look. You can have it all, if you so choose.
Or, you could just ignore it for as long as possible, and hope it just goes away.
Sure, it's not going to go away, and eventually you'll *have* to upgrade (unless you're not on a supported device, mind you), but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some people out there who were hanging onto the past for whatever reason. Even if the adoption percentage for iOS 7 is apparently just over 35% in a very short amount of time.
It's actually that percentage that's been floating around that has me so interested. I know that I asked you if iOS 7 was worth the wait back when it was first announced, but up until now many people couldn't get their hands on it. More than that, though, it wasn't refined or finished. Now that it is, I'm posing the question to you again, but in a slightly different way.
You may have an upgrade available right now, or you may be nearing an upgrade date, or maybe you simply just want to buy a new phone. Whatever the case, starting tomorrow Apple will have its new iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s on sale, and that means iOS 7 will be available right out of the box.
The hardware aside, I'm very curious if you are getting ready to switch from whatever device you have now to one of Apple's new pieces of equipment, solely due to the software. Do you think iOS 7 is a worthy change from the previous versions of Apple's mobile OS? Or is the platform not for you? Are you adopting iOS 7? Or ditching the platform entirely? Let me know!
