Apple's new iPad event said to be taking place on Oct. 22 [UPDATED]Alex Wagner - Deputy Managing Editor, News Desk
Grab your calendars, Apple fans, because it looks like we may finally have a concrete date on which the Cupertino firm will unveil its new iPad lineup. Sources speaking to AllThingsD claim that Apple will hold an event on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at which it will unveil its fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini. It's also said that some new Mac gear, including the refreshed Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks, will be shown off at the shindig.
Both the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 have starred in a number of alleged case leaks throughout 2013. According to the rumor mill, the full-size iPad will be undergoing its biggest design change in years as it adopts a design similar to the iPad mini, complete with rounded sides and narrower bezels. The iPad 5 is also expected to gain an improved camera and Apple's new 64-bit A7 processor that's also found in the iPhone 5s. Meanwhile, the iPad mini 2 will reportedly be gaining the same A7 chip as well as a new Retina display.
If today's rumor holds true, it looks like Oct. 22 will be a big day in Tabletland. Not only will we see two major updates to Apple's iPad line, but Nokia has already announced that it's holding an event in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 22 that's expected to include the debut of its long-rumored Windows RT tablet. And if that wasn't enough, Oct. 22 is also the date on which Microsoft's new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 slates will officially go on sale to the public. Which of the new products debuting on Tabletocalypse 2013 are you most excited about?
