Samsung Galaxy Gear

Remember that update that began rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Gear last month? You know, the one that greatly improved its functionality by displaying more detailed notifications for non-Samsung apps? That update has finally landed on U.S. shores, allowing users to do things like actually read the body of an email on their Gear. That's a pretty big improvement on its own, but Samsung has also thrown in a few more tweaks that include improved range and connection strength, better battery life and speedier S Voice functionality.

Overall this update looks to be a biggie that I'm sure most Galaxy Gear folk are going to want to snag as soon as possible. You can do that by trying an over the air update on the watch itself or by going old-school and plugging the Gear into your computer, then firing up Samsung's Kies software.

Smartwatches are still a fairly young product segment, and so it's kind of to be expected that the earliest devices on the market will undergo some work post-launch as consumers use the hardware and software and manufacturers learn how to make it them both better. It's good to see Samsung listening to feedback and improving the Gear's functionality and it'll definitely be interesting to see what other tweaks that the company makes to its smartwatch going forward.

Have you worn a Samsung Galaxy Gear yet? If so, what are your impressions of it?
