AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active

Galaxy S 4 Active owners on AT&T have had to sit by for the past month and a half and watch as their regular Galaxy S 4-toting pals enjoy Android 4.3, but today their patience pays off.

AT&T has announced that the Galaxy S 4 Active's bump to Android 4.3 is going out over the air starting today, Jan. 14. The update brings the ruggedized Galaxy S 4 Active up to software version JSS15J.I537UCUBML2 and weighs in at a beefy 721MB, meaning that you'll need to connect to Wi-Fi before attempting to download this sucker.

So exactly what's inside this bundle of update goodness that makes it 721MB? Along with an upgrade to Android 4.3, the Galaxy S 4 Active is gaining support for Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch, the ability to drag and drop applications to disable or uninstall them and AT&T Signature Experience preloads. Those include apps like Kindle, Lookout, City ID, Password Keeper, Games and AT&T Mobile Protection. So yeah, don't be surprised if you've got a few more apps after installing the update than you did before hitting that download button.

The Galaxy S 4 Active may have lagged behind its Galaxy S 4 brethren in receiving an update to Android 4.3, but all that matters now is that the update is finally making its way out into the wild. Now we just have to hope that the update doesn't get put on hold due to some random bug like the AT&T Galaxy S 4's update.

If you've got a Galaxy S 4 Active as your adventure companion and you haven't yet been notified of this latest update, put down the hiking gear or swimming accessories and head on into Settings > More > About device > Software update > Check for updates.
