Sony D6503 'Sirius' screenshots and spec details trickle out
Over the weekend, some photos of a new Sony Xperia smartphone referred to as the "D6503" leaked out, showing a device that was reminiscent of the Xperia Z1 but with a few design changes. Now the D6503 is back, and this time we've got some details on the unit's specs as well as some screenshots of the software that the unit is running.
A new report from XperiaBlog claims to have details on the specs that'll be included with the D6503, which reportedly goes by the codename "Sirius." The front of the D6503 is said to be home to a 5.2-inch 1080p display and 2.1-megapixel camera, while the backside will reportedly house a 20.7-megapixel shooter similar to the one found on the Xperia Z1. Powering the D6503 is a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz as well as 3GB of RAM.
On the software side of things, xda-developers user iRimas has posted several screenshots of the software running on the D6503 prototype that leaked out a couple of days ago. Included in the large batch of screens is the device's app drawer, notification management settings, an editable list of Quick Settings in the notification shade and several images of the setup walkthrough. It's worth noting that while this prototype is reportedly running a customized version of Android 4.3 from November 2013, XperiaBlog claims that the D6503 Sirius will be powered by Android 4.4 by the time that it actually ships to consumers.
Overall it appears that the D6503/Sirius is shaping up to be a slight hardware refresh to the Xperia Z1. The three big changes appear to include a RAM bump from 2GB to 3GB, a switch to a different Snapdragon 800 chip and a newer display that's not only slightly larger than the Z1's, but is also described as being a "much better" screen. Of course, none of this is official until Sony says that it is, but the good news is that with Mobile World Congress a little over a month out, it may not be long before the company formally introduces us to its Sirius device.
