BBM version 2.2 update now rolling out on iOS with several new features

BBM v2.2 update iOS App Store

Last week, BlackBerry announced a new version of BBM for Android and iOS that includes easier sign-up, 16 new emoticons, bug fixes, performance improvements and more. The Android update began rolling out to users that same day, and now its time for iOS users to get in on the fun.

The BBM version 2.2 app update is now rolling out in the iOS App Store. As you can see in the screenshot above, the full version number is and the update weighs in at 51.7MB. The full changelog for the update is as follows:

  • Simple sign up for new BBM users
  • New sign in screen for existing BBM users
  • Improved experience for adding new BBM contacts by email
  • Updates tab has been re-named ‘Feeds’
  • 16 new emoticons
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements

This is a pretty significant update for BBM, making it easier for new users to sign up for the service and also adding quite a few goodies for existing BBM-ers as well.

As a reminder, BlackBerry has said that it’s working on a “special release” of BBM for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 that’s expected to launch in the coming weeks. For now, you iOS BBM users can snag the version 2.2 update by clicking the App Store link below.
