BBM update BlackBerry 10, BBOS

Remember last month when BlackBerry teased that it was cooking up a “special release” of BBM for BlackBerry 10 and BBOS? Well that update has finally arrived, and there are plenty of goodies for BlackBerry fans to sink their teeth into.

BlackBerry is now rolling out an update to BlackBerry Messenger for both its new BlackBerry 10 platform as well as older BBOS devices. The former update is version number and weighs in at 19MB, while the latter is version and 12MB. Here’s the list of changes given to us by BlackBerry:

  • BBM Protected: A new, more secure version of BBM that includes added protection for BBM chats between enterprise users.
  • Chat wallpapers: Just like it sounds, this feature gives users another way to customize their BBM chats with wallpapers that can be added behind chat bubbles. Available in the BBM Shop.
  • Sixteen new emoticons: Includes a shamrock, set of lips, stop sign, hot dog and much more.
  • Improved experience for adding BBM contacts via email: When a user receives a BBM invitation over email, they can click the link and the contact will be added.
  • Updates tab renamed to “Feeds”: Name changed to better represent the status updates, profiles and posts that are found in the stream.
  • Increased file transfer limit for BBOS: Maximum attachment size for BBM users on BBOS devices upped to 16MB.

This update includes many of the same features that BlackBerry rolled out to Android and iOS users recently, but it also includes some special goodies like chat wallpapers. If you’re a BBM user rocking either a BB10 or BBOS device, this is one update that you’ll want to grab as soon as possible. You can do just that by hitting up the BlackBerry World links below.
