TDMA vs GSM

Posted on: August 14th, 2006 by S. Cherf

The good: Cingular starting to charge $4.99 per month for anyone still using a TDMA phoneThe bad: Being tied into a 2 year contract by getting a new phone:(Cingular starting to charge $4.99 per month for anyone still using a TDMA phone:(Summary: Cingular is trying to convince their customers who are still on the TDMA network to switch to GSM. Of course, that means getting a new (GSM) phone and being tied to a 2 year contract. The reasons they give for switching is better signal on GSM network (I haven't noticed any difference) and an additional charge of $4.99 per month if you don't switch.

Good luck adding a second line

Posted on: August 9th, 2006 by Anonymous

The good: They have a good variety in phones/contracts which are flexible for various users. The bad: We had to contact the customer service department numerous times in order to get the order correct. At first, they did not send the right items. When they did finally send the correct items, the phone was defective. We were told to take the phone to the store, and the store could not help us and told us to call customer service. After 2 months of wrangling with Cingular, we finally received a replacement phone. They have a LOT of dropped calls - don't believe the hype!Summary: I don't particularly care for the Cingular Wireless service. They have a lot of dropped calls and really don't care to fix the issue. I can stand in my house and be on my phone for an hour at 11pm and it will drop 5-6 times during the call, but on another day, it will be just fine.

Cingular Wireless

Posted on: August 9th, 2006 by Samantha Stonecipher

The good: The people in their stores are always extremely helpful and go the extra mile to help you resolve issues or find the right product. I have always been pleasantly surprised with their in store personnel. The bad: There are a lot of dropped calls, despite their advertisements they are the #1 carrier for not dropping calls. I usually make phone calls from the same location (my house) and can go hours with no dropped calls or will have dropped calls every 5 minutes - and this is late night! They recently changed their phone upgrade policy. You now have to wait the full 2 years to upgrade your phone.Summary: I don't think I will be renewing my contract with them in February. The phone/contract is reasonable but the service is subpar and unreliable entirely too many times for my tastes. In addition, their telephone customer support leaves a lot to be desired. When ordering my second phone, I had to make no fewer than 7 phone calls in order to fix the mistakes on the order and every single representative gave me a different answer.

Usually good, but...

Posted on: August 8th, 2006 by E W

The good: Reliable, clear billing, easy to contactThe bad: Price, Service in some areas, Summary: I used to be a member of AT&T wireless, and I liked it because they had low-end packages. Cingular likes to bundle up more high-end stuff and charge you for stuff you don't need, but overall it's a decent reliable service. I get bad reception at my house, but it could be because I'm in a newly developed neighborhood.

cingular service review

Posted on: August 8th, 2006 by Ryan Hurlock

The good: Coverage is pretty good all over Indiana. Only a few dropped calls. The places where I have used cingular range from Bloomington to Angola which is near Ft Wayne, so when I say all over Indiana it really does cover most of the area well. The bad: Signal is sometimes low, but I have a cheap phone so that could be part of the problem. At one time an antenna was down in my area and it took close to 4 months for the repair. This caused calls to only occasionally reach their destination.Summary: They have very good coverage statewide and very few of my calls have been cut out from loss of signal. The only major drawback to their service is the amount of time it took them to fix the antenna problem mentioned above. Four months is an unreasonable amount of time for a phone service to be impaired the way it was. Many complaint calls were made by the people living in my area, and because of the large amount of time the problem remained after their representative saying that the problem would be resolved, it made it seem as though we were being ignored.

Cingular wireless: pretty good

Posted on: August 7th, 2006 by chi lam

The good: rollover minutes, coverage areasThe bad: sneaky charges get increased, like 411 usageSummary: overall cingular has been pretty good. i have done research on switching companies but the current plan i have is great, the rollover and free nationwide long distance and free mobile to mobile. i rarely have dropped calls in my area. i dont like the miscellaneous charges though, like the 411 usage fee which is being increased this week, or other recovery fees. but im sure its like that with other companies too. overall, cingular, positive experience

Excellent Coverage

Posted on: August 5th, 2006 by M Arnson

The good: 3-5 bars everywhereThe bad: sometimes overlaps with Rodgers in Canada, and get roaming chargeSummary: Cingular has increased it's coverage across NYS with the pickup of additional AT&T towers, the coverage can't be beat. Good customer service and GMS SIM card phones make this an unbeatable combination.
