3.5 overallNot bad at all..
By J Moreno, posted: Jun 09The good: Cheap unlimited service, very affordable, better than my last phone service. The bad: Some areas no signal, like the tunnels.Summary: I had AT&T before i got metro PCS, i used to pay over $280. for three lines. It was not unlimitted i had certain amounts of minutes which sucked. Somehow i used to get charged for things i didn't use and their signal "BARS" was terrible. With Metro PCS i have unlimited talking, texting, web and my husband who has family in South America can text them for free. I personally love it, i can afford it and i'm not breaking my budget.
1.3 overallIts true you get what you pay for.
By Dennis D , posted: Jun 09The good: Cheap and unlimited talk and text plans for individuals and families. The bad: Service is hit or miss. Customer Service is very poor. If you miss your payment due date by 1 day, your service is suspended. Summary: If its too good to be true, it really is. You really do get what you pay for with Metro. Which is not much at all. Cheap plans equal cheap service and coverage. I would get inconsistent coverage from place to place and lose service when entering homes and buildings. Be careful when buying a cell phone. Some are of obsolete technology and will not work in newly established Metro PCS coverage areas, but your are never told this by the sales person. Bottom line, it is decent service if you don't travel anywere, but they have a long way to go before they can call themselves a "real" cellular carrier.
2.7 overallWeLL..
By yariann irizarry, posted: Mar 09The good: UNLIMITED EVERYTHING FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE YOU WILL PAY WITH OTHER CARRIERS & DID I MENTION NO HIDDEN FEES!!!!The bad: CHEAP PHONES(REFURBISHED -COUGH!!), LOUSY WEB BROWSING, IM SUCKS, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH IS JUST A MACHINE...OH AND HORRIBLE SERVICESummary: I currently work for an exclusive MetroPCS store, and i sure have a lot to say...first of people are dumb..when you say UNLIMITED EVERYTHING they ask how many minutes?? and my favorite free nights and weekend??...OMG..second from a customers point of view..my phone sucks...i have thr R450 red..and umm its worse than my old sidekick lx..web browsing sucks..AIM is slow..and calls well i talk to myself half the time..when i go to Garden State mall i dont have freaking service..which is no biggie..i could still text..just switch your phones to AUTOMATIC..ive resorted to turning my sidekick lx back on for web and AIM for only $1 a day..which isnt bad since i have an employee line with Metro..i do have a few good things to say though..i love being able to talk with no worries(when i do talk)..texting isnt bad but its limited to 160 letters per text which is bad for a compulsive texter like me..
Overall its OK..not the best but what you pay is what you get..NY and Nj is a very tough market so they are coming out with good things..
3.7 overallUnlimited use for a reasonable price.
By Robin Frank, posted: Mar 09The good: You don't have to worry about minutes. The bad: No Blackberries.Summary: We used to use AT&T GoPhones, but my use for business meant I was refilling substantially more than once a year. When I figured out I was paying AT&T more than $400 per year, getting unlimited service for $200 more didn't seem too bad.
We have a second GoPhone which is used substantially less and gets buy costing $100 per year. When that one needs to be renewed, we will get rid of it and add a second Metro-PCS line which will only cost another $20 more than the yearly cost of that GoPhone.
Since we don't travel much, the more limited coverage area is not an issue. Service in Los Angeles is quite good.
I have only needed customer service once, when I activated the phone. I had the distinct impression he was reading from a prepared text.
I got the Samsung SCHr450 phone, which, at $179 isn't cheap, works very well for voice, text, email, IM and browsing. Having a slide out QWERTY keyboard is very handy.
1.0 overallWHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WHERE IS THE SERVICE?
By Ryan Smith, posted: Feb 09The good: Unlimited Plan. I don't have to watch how much I talk. The bad: Lousy service, Drops calls all the time, Phones are a piece of junk. No real support anywhereSummary: I bought the service to save money. I consider myself a heavy user, but the service is pissing me off everyday. I don't care if you pay $50 or a $100 a month. Companies should give the best service or don't do business. This is what is wrong with corporations in America. They oversell their product. If you are a lite user (less than 1000 minutes a month) they might be good. But they need to improve a lot of key areas. (Web site, customer service, and the phones they offer). The phones are to expensive.
1.3 overallLousy customer service
By dave scott, posted: Dec 08The good: the phone worksThe bad: the website stinksSummary: I can't believe the programmers who put together Metro PCS' websites. They need to get rid of all the registration garbage because it doesn't work. You can't see your bill so you have to call them in order to find out the exact amount due. The message they send you on your phone does not represent the true amount-unless of course the salesperson added on to my service after I told him I didn't want voice mail. I have another cell phone my company pays for but I thought I would buy my own budget phone and service for personal use. Metro PCS needs to get with it when it comes to customer service. It is irritating that a cheap service like this has to live up its name.
3.7 overallA little miracle...
By Jessica Barton, posted: Dec 08The good: Least expensive phone is a great little device
Simplistic as can be
No hassle
No contract
No hidden fees
The bad: short of mailing it in; payments have a charge between 2 and 4 dollars. Essentially they charge you to pay your billSummary: I am a stay at home mom who travels mostly within 40 miles of my home. I have a busy lifestyle, but I don't need a big Ol' complicated "smart phone" The little white samsung does the job very well, it's very easy to hear and isn't so digital sounding. The key lock feature is super easy, but rarely neccesary since the keys are flush with the face of the phone so it doesn't constantly dial 222. Which is good for a small non-flip phone. I've never had a service or phone I was happy with until now.
5.0 overallMetroPCS is Great
By philip williamson, posted: Dec 08The good: Most expensive plan is only $50 and it comes with unlimited talk, text, picture messaging, Web, and much more.
very good customer service.
alright phone selection.
not very many dropped calls.
Insurance is not expensive.
You can bring your own phone in and they could flash it to work with their service.
They have family plans so that it is $25 per person for 4 people with unlimited minutes.
MetroPCS stores have many accessories for all of their phones. The bad: Expensive Phones.
Does not cover the entire US.
Insurance doesnt cover water damage.
They cannot flash smart phones.
If you travel out of state or country, you must pay for the minutes.
Sometimes when i go to some places in my city, i have no bars of connectivity.
very often, my wall charger stops working but it is no problem because i have collected many chargers from my samsung phones over the years.Summary: Overall i think that MetroPCS is a very good phone company. their cheapest plan is $30 per month which has only unlimited talk and their most expensive plan which has unlimited everything is only $50 per month. there are alot more good things than there are bad things about MetroPCS and you cant say that about most companies.
3.7 overallI can't stand them, but.........
By Dustin Smith, posted: Nov 08The good: They are cheap, unlimited everything (text, pics, video, local and long distance) for under 50$/month. Extremely low foreign rates per min.The bad: Localized calling area, only covering a few counties in north Tx. Very limited phone selection.Summary: If you don't travel more than 80 miles, if you want to strictly have an unlimited mins phone for your kid for about 25$/month, if having phones that are a couple years old with no frills at all and paying a jacked up price, if you have family in other countries, if you don't mind rooting through the least user friendly customer service menus and talkin to the dumbest and least job enthused people once you do get through than you can't beat it. You can travel with the phones, they lease roaming access from other carriers to use their towers, it just costs alot. Also if you travel/move to an area that has metropcs there, you can use the phone just as if you were at home.
4.3 overallI like MetroPCS service
By Rick Bush, posted: Nov 08The good: Is expanding service areas. Even with buying your own phone, the plans are cheaper. The bad: You have to purchase your cell phone outright, but for the price of the service it is worth it. You miss a month you have to play catch up to keep your number, You can roam, but you pay $0.49 per minute and you have to let MetroPCS know you are going to be in roam mode ahead of time.Summary: With MetroPCS you have buy your own cell phone. Plans are as follows (11/19/2008):
$35.00 unlimited minutes local only
$45.00 unlimited minutes local and long distance
$55.00 unlimited minutes local and long distance, web services and plus the other services you would pay separate for. Texting services with all plans is $3.00 per month extra, but as with all of the MetroPCS services it is unlimited texting. MetroPCS just recently added Lansing and Flint Michigan areas to their service areas. There is a $3.00 service charge for paying a payment through a vendor/dealer. I think a $3.00 service charge is cheap, versus a $80.00 payment per month and on up for the other cellular service. MetroPCS is a bit high on adding family to your service, $25.00, but there is no shared minutes and they get the same services that the main phone line gets as well (you still have to pay the extra $3.00 for phone texting per person per month). For the most part it is an excellent service at the right price.
