Nothing but a nightmare to deal with.
By Susan Johnson, posted: Feb 19Bought a tracfone in July/12. It does not work in my immediate area in South Florida (Boynton Beach). If I go up the road 1 mile I have service. I was told for months there was a tower down. In Jan/13, I went after them again, being escalated to the managers department, (which is another joke) demanding a phone that would work In Boynton. After 3 pieces of garbage sent to me, and returned, they now had the ordasity to zap my sim card, so my phone doesn't work anywhere. So now after 6 weeks of 4 or 5, 1.25 hour phone calls they are suppose to be sending me the correct model to operate in this area, along with a new sim card for the old phone, because I don't actually believe a new phone is coming. Think very hard before buying one of these pieces of junk. - 1.3 overall
The worst customer service
By Tara Lypinski, posted: Feb 18Bought a Tracfone, since I am not using a cell phone very much and was sick of paying $ 50 every month . Bought it at our local Radio Shack who activates the phones ahead of time , since a third of the phones will not activate ( had that problem with a previous Tracfone ). Bought a 1 year card and did not get 200 bonus minutes . I sent them 2 emails , they never answered them . When I finally called , they said it was too late to add the minutes after having me on hold for 20 minutes . Customer service outside the US - bad English skills and bad phone connection . Definitely not out to please their customers . They can only get away with it , since they don't have any competition in the prepaid cell phone service in the US . - 1.0 overall
Unbelievably bad customer service
By Orville Johnston, posted: Jan 31Tracfone is far and away the worst company I have ever dealt with. Their customer service is virtually non-existent. They use up all the airtime you purchase by keeping you on hold, being cut off and having to call back. I have yet to speak to anyone that I could understand even though I requested service in English. How they are allowed to operate in this fashion and remain in business is mind boggling. PEOPLE - DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND NEVER PURCHASE A TRACFONE.
1.0 overallMy new phone sucks
By sammy2jr, posted: Jan 17I got my tracfone through the mail. Opened the box, put the battery cover on and it won't stay on. Either the cover is the wrong one or it's made wrong. I have tried putting it on several times and it keeps falling off. I think the plastic prongs are too short. What am I supposed to do with a phone that the cover won't stay on? The customer service department people (whom I can't understand) don't know what I should do.
1.0 overallDo not waste your time with TracFone
By Jonesies Jones, posted: Jan 6Our family recommends you go with some other service. TracFone has bad area coverage and the worst customer service next to T-Mobile. They want way too much personal information when you call for help,. that can take an average of 90 minutes! And you can't understand a word these foreigners are saying. You push one for English then you should expect to speak to someone who can fluently speak audible English. We just purchased a TracFone minute card and used a dime to scratch of the protective silver coating and it also removed the pin code numbers so we can't add your minutes. We have our receipt with authorization code etc...from the store the card was purchased and TracFone refuses to help without you first answering and providing personal information. The phone isn't the problem it is the crappy faulty/defective minute’s card. Then they said we could Fax them with all our personal information before they will tell us how to fix the card. All they need is the minute’s card number and the purchase authorization number from our receipt and they could have easily given us the pin code. Earlier this year we misplaced the phone and ran out of minutes and the phone SIM card expired, instead of just reactivating it, you have to give them all your personal information for them to send you a new SIM card, then you have to call them and spend another 128 minutes on the phone entering codes to reactivate your phone. Plus we lsot the 580 minutes we had saved up. They had record of the minutes and refused to reinstate them. It is not worth all the trouble and they are selling our private information they collect from us. We rate them -100!- 0.0 overall

Has worked well for me and my friend
By Steve Azzole, posted: Dec 12I have been a Tracfone customer for 4 years, upgraded my phone twice and I am completely satisfied. The three times I had to deal with customer service, they were fine, as a matter of fact, the first two times they were great, very competent . I do not know if things have change or some people have bad luck, but I am happy with Tracfone. I am a very light user of my phone but have with me most of the time, coverage has been very good though some texts seems to have gotten lost in the ether. I live in Minneapolis and do not travel much. I am thinking of upgrading once again to the lg 840g, I have to keep my fingers crossed while transferring my number and minutes. - 1.0 overall

It's good for what it is, not much else.
By Carl Hofelt, posted: Dec 12If I had it to do over, I'd probably have done a few things differently. I'm not certain how easy it is to port an existing # over to tracfone, and I know that dealing with customer service is total waste of time. Best policy is to not want anything that requires customer service. Also you shouldn't rely on tracfone as your only phone service. It's fine as long as you have a landline with at least the bare bones service. Here's how tracfone can work for you. Buy a phone and activate it, invest in the double minutes deal however you buy it (either the year of service and 800 minutes or the $15 double minute card with whatever other minutes you buy). Now don't let the phone go inactive for more than a few days and you're set. I let one of my phones go inactive for over 90 days and lost the minutes (over 200) I had on when I re-activated it. Lesson learned. If you choose to upgrade your Tracfone phone then plan on having the guy at radio shack (or whatever retailer you buy from) do it for you. That's what worked for me. Trying to do it yourself seems to pose a risk of having to deal with customer service (which you can see by the other reviews is a giant waste of time). Also keep your expectations low, you may not be able to keep your old #. Also, as a precautionary measure, don't switch while you have a lot of minutes in your bank, in case you lose 'em in the crossover. The one and only time I had to do this went without a hitch, and you probably won't have any problems, but I've heard enough stories to know that there's no guarantee. If I had it to do over again, I'd have bought a phone with a qwerty keypad, but that's not so big an issue. I'd probably text more if I had it, and that can save minutes for you. I only use this when I'm away from home or work. My typical call lasts about a minute or three. Probably less than 60 minutes a month, typically. Every once in a great while I need to make a call that lasts 45 minutes, so I try to keep at least 100 minutes in the bank. Bottom line, your phone isn't going to be your lifestyle. It's basic and it's cheap if it's not your primary phone. If this is your only phone then you are going to be broke in a hurry.
