It's good for what it is, not much else.
By Carl Hofelt, posted: Dec 12If I had it to do over, I'd probably have done a few things differently. I'm not certain how easy it is to port an existing # over to tracfone, and I know that dealing with customer service is total waste of time. Best policy is to not want anything that requires customer service. Also you shouldn't rely on tracfone as your only phone service. It's fine as long as you have a landline with at least the bare bones service. Here's how tracfone can work for you. Buy a phone and activate it, invest in the double minutes deal however you buy it (either the year of service and 800 minutes or the $15 double minute card with whatever other minutes you buy). Now don't let the phone go inactive for more than a few days and you're set. I let one of my phones go inactive for over 90 days and lost the minutes (over 200) I had on when I re-activated it. Lesson learned. If you choose to upgrade your Tracfone phone then plan on having the guy at radio shack (or whatever retailer you buy from) do it for you. That's what worked for me. Trying to do it yourself seems to pose a risk of having to deal with customer service (which you can see by the other reviews is a giant waste of time). Also keep your expectations low, you may not be able to keep your old #. Also, as a precautionary measure, don't switch while you have a lot of minutes in your bank, in case you lose 'em in the crossover. The one and only time I had to do this went without a hitch, and you probably won't have any problems, but I've heard enough stories to know that there's no guarantee. If I had it to do over again, I'd have bought a phone with a qwerty keypad, but that's not so big an issue. I'd probably text more if I had it, and that can save minutes for you. I only use this when I'm away from home or work. My typical call lasts about a minute or three. Probably less than 60 minutes a month, typically. Every once in a great while I need to make a call that lasts 45 minutes, so I try to keep at least 100 minutes in the bank. Bottom line, your phone isn't going to be your lifestyle. It's basic and it's cheap if it's not your primary phone. If this is your only phone then you are going to be broke in a hurry. - 1.0 overall
DON'T USE TRACFONE UNLESS YOU REALLY HAVE TO.
By Harry Troeger, posted: Dec 12DON'T USE TRACFONE UNLESS YOU REALLY HAVE TO. Their customer service is terrible, you can barely understand their phone workers because the dialects are so strong, they repeat scripts over and over and over again and don't solve your problems! We have spent over 6 hours on the phone with them and repeated sim cards being sent....supposedly the cards take 3-5 business days but they take at least 10 days, and still don't work...AND we have been without a phone the entire time!! that means almost 3 weeks without a phone we have paid for....and they offered me 30 minutes as a compensation for all of our time lost and not being able to use a phone and the service we are paying for....what a joke!! this company is negligent and horrendous to deal with. NOT RECOMMENDED. AVOID THIS COMPANY. Tracfone obviously does not care about their reputation as they don't care about their customers. - 1.0 overall
They stold 796 minutes from us that we had built up! DONE!
By Debbie Diaz, posted: Nov 12We had tracfone for years. Around 10 months ago everything changed with them. Our phone place calls half of the time and within a 30 day period we saw 796 minutes disappear that we had built up over the years. Customer service will politely listen to you all day, but absolutely do not correct the situation. When those minutes dissappeared we were done. Do NOT invest in what appears to have become a failed phone system!

Terrible
By Carrie Kennedy, posted: Oct 12I have the LG800G. Yes it triples minutes, BUT, my texts always fail, and I get charged anyway. I cannot wait to be able to throw this phone to the wind. My advice... find another provider. 1 out of 3 texts fail, and bye bye minutes.

By nopers123, posted: Oct 12I've been using Tracfone for a year now and have zero complaints. Not only that, but I rarely have to add minutes on it. Since I use it rarely (just texting), I only need to put $20 on it every three months. My phone has triple minutes/days so I get three times the purchase right then and there. If you rarely use your phone and want a cheap solution, this is it. One night, midnight, I mistakenly bought the wrong package for minutes for my phone. They quickly resolved the issue without conflict. Just perfect. I don't know what the deal is with all these low reviews. My family also uses this service, no issues there either. Most of these problems reported can be resolvd with a simple call to customer service, rather than going straight to the net and writing a bad review right off the bat.- 2.7 overall

Think twice before you buy!
By Cheryl Aguirre, posted: Aug 12My 78 year old mother has spent the last week trying to add airtime to her Tracfone. She has tried to do it over the phone but was left waiting for hours for customer service. I tried online but was told her phone number was wrong, which it isn't! This is the second time she has had this trouble and now she has given up and is phone hunting for a company who really cares about their customers! - 1.0 overall
