User reviews Poor Quality and Ugly When in Use, 2008-01-25 I bought this unit because I wanted something small and not bulky that would look good in my vehicle and make my K850 look good in its holder. I wanted it to be made for my K850i, not just some universal holder. I wanted my Sony car charger to plug into the holder, which it does. I wanted it to be of Sony quality.
When the unit arrived I was immediately disapointed. It was very cheap feeling. That was my first thought. Then I tried to fit my phone into it and surprise! It doesn't fit because I use a Krusell leather case. The K850i is a very expensive unit and it simply must be protected with a case. The case I use is small and thin, but still, that little bit extra keeps the phone from fitting in this holder. I bought an additional case, the FlexiSkin, which is nice and extremely thin, but even with that thin case, the phone doesn't fit in the holder right. The prongs on the holder, that plug into the phone, are cheap and feel like they will snap off even when the caseless phone is inserted. You really have to push too hard to insert it and pull too hard to remove it. Others have complained that the prongs do in fact snap off and remain inside the phone. The little extra, offset pressure created by inserting a phone with a case, even a very thin FlexiSkin, is just too scary. There's no way I am screwing this thing into the dashboard of my expensive vehicle knowing that to use it I will have to remove my unit from its case each time and knowing that at any time the prongs could snap off and remain inside my phone like they have to so many others. Then I'll have to remove the holder and there will be ugly screw holes in my dash where the holder used to be.
Also, the way the phone is held in the holder is ugly. The arms you see in the picture do not expand and retract horizontally to grip the phone. You actually place the phone in the holder and then press the left side of the arm downward. The left arm goes down and the right arm goes up and now you have this slanted, cockeyed, crooked-looking thing holding your phone in place (which by the way seems to put more uneven pressure on those little plastic prongs). It almost looks broken and that's just not sexy.
PROS: It's small and looks decent with no phone in it (just like in the picture).
CONS: Cheaply constructed and ugly with phone in it due to slanted arms. Doesn't work if you use a case for your phone. Particularly useful for phones in custom cases, 2007-02-16 I have SonyEricsson W800i with a custom silicone soft skin case (brand Pivot). The case added enough thickness to the phone so that it would not fit in the car holder (HCH-61) designed for the W800i. I needed a different solution.
This universal holder HCH-60 is flexible enough in which my phone with the case fits. The arms you see is actually a single spring-loaded piece that rotates at the middle and clips onto the side of the phone (e.g. top-left and bottom-right, or vice-versa). Ends of the arms are rubberized and holds the phone well. It does not hold the phone from the top, but with the arms activated (clipping from the sides) the phone stays in place firmly without issues. The HCH-60 holder also does NOT have the little hole in the back that's used for external antenna plug (see HCH-61, which does). But that feature is not important to me.
Overall, the holder serves its purpose and is more accomodating if you use you phone with a custom case. Connector is inadequate for a car installation, 2006-10-27 I purchased this car holder for my z520a phone. The connector on the bottom of this car holder is completely inadequate for a car installation. A slight bump of the wire, or taking a turn too quick will cause the connector to come loose. The Sony Ericsson engineers should have known better.
