Product description

Setting new standards for mobile voice clarity and personal style, the new Jawbone Bluetooth headset by Aliph represents a complete departure from the gadgetry of the mobile headset industry. Originally developed for military use in extreme environments, Jawbone features NoiseAssassin--a proprietary technology that eliminates background noise from mobile phone conversations. Jawbone is the only Bluetooth headset with a Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) that actually feels your speech, which helps Jawbone distinguish your voice from background noise.

The new Jawbone in black.
Widely recognized as the best Bluetooth headset on the market, the new Jawbone is 50 percent smaller than the original, award-winning Jawbone, offer over 4 hours of talk time, and comes with three earbuds and four earloops for a comfortable and personalized fit.

Military-Grade NoiseAssassin Technology
Developed over years of research for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Jawbone's NoiseAssassin eliminates real world noise better than competing headset because it's the only hands free device that accurately separates human speech from ambient noise. Unmatched in its ability to remove noise from loud environments like busy streets, cars, crowded cafes, and airports, NoiseAssassin is comprised of two features unique to Jawbone: a patented Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) and proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms. Jawbone is the only Bluetooth headset with a VAS that feels the speech vibrations from your jaw. This enables Jawbone to capture the distinct frequencies of your voice. Proprietary DSP algorithms work in concert with two powerful microphones and the VAS to accurately model surrounding noise and aggressively eliminate it from the conversation.

Conventional "noise suppression" headsets do not have a Voice Activity Sensor and can only estimate when speech is occurring. This causes performance issues like voice distortion, especially in the presence background noise.

Not Just a Headset, It's Earwear
Made with premium materials like medical-grade plastic and fine leather, the new Jawbone with NoiseAssassin combines science and beauty in the most unassuming, yet richly detailed product. Every effort has been made to contain best in class noise suppression technology in a miniature form that is 50 percent smaller than the original, award-winning Jawbone.

The new Jawbone accomplishes a clean and sophisticated look thanks to invisible buttons. Touch-surface technology allows the user to operate switches by lightly pressing the outer shield. Curved and rectilinear to follow the face, the outer shield is lightly textured and inspired by three-dimensional noise abatement surfaces. The infer surface, the one touching your face and creating contact with the Voice Activity Sensor, is gently curved to be ergonomic and comfortable on your skin.

Offering a comfortable and personalized fit, the new Jawbone comes with three sizes of earbuds and four earloops--two sizes of leather and two of slim, which are ideal for use with eyeglasses. Jawbone can also be worn on either ear and with or without an earloop.

Avoid Any Product From This Company, 2008-09-04
It could be a good product. Jawbone works well out of the box, although it is hard to get it to fit comfortably. Nothing they make will hold up long as far as I can tell. Jawbone's version of customer service is a sweet voice telling you to stop complaining. The customer service issue is the clincher. This company relies on marketing, not quality and not service. I will be surprised if they stay in business through 2009.

Freedom is a Wonderful Thing, 2008-09-01
Other than using a speakerphone, this is the first hand's free device I've used. My city has passed no texting while driving laws, but hasn't passed any requiring hand's free devices yet. It is only a matter of time. Speakerphones didn't work very well. Driving with one hand and getting a crick in my neck, or dropping my phone while driving was obviously inconvenient at the least.

Since I'm a realtor and property manager, I spend a lot of time behind the wheel and retrieving signs and such from my trunk. The Jawbone II was recommended by my son-in-law computer geek/techno genius Eric, because he wanted to get one too. He had tried other brands already but excitedly showed me videos demonstrating the ease, style and practical uses of the Jawbone II. The obvious advantage of "NoiseAssassin" did it for me. I was hooked. He emailed me a link from Amazon and I chose the gold tone "ladies" look as I am blonde and fair skinned. I figured it would appear more of an accessory like an earring. He chose the black one, though I didn't ask him why-he does have black hair.

Now as I drive through town in my not so quiet Z4 or surf the net, I can use my hands freely. And when a call comes though and I either hear my phone ring or the warble in the Jawbone II, I simply give a quick index finger tap to the device and say hello. Callers have mentioned I sound different, but probably don't realize it is a lack of background noise that they notice. When my call is over, I tap again. And if I stray too far, maybe 30 ft. from my phone, I hear a tone in my ear that says I'm out of reach. It reminds me to go back and get it.

I tell everyone who asks and even some that don't what a marvelous tool this is. I'm so glad my daughter married a technical genius!

Good looking, but difficult to use, 2008-08-31
After trying several other headsets, I decided to spend the money on what was rumored to be the best. While it looks good and is packaged well, the instructions are minimal. This headset seems to rely more on being used with the phone, but is difficult if you're trying to use it by itself. Pushing the button on the headset to make the call is still something I'm trying to figure out -- I've mostly had to open my phone and do the dialing there. Other headsets I've had make it a lot easier to make a call. Also, the noise assassin feature works when it's on, but it's hard to tell whether it's on or off. There's not much of an indication. People on the other end of the line sound pretty good, but they say I sound tinny when I use the headset. One thing I did like about this headset is that it's light, as opposed to its much-heavier predecessor.

  The Pros & Cons, 2008-08-30
I have the older style, and this was my attempt to try the new style.

Pros:

1. Smaller
2. Better fitting than original
3. SUPER SEXY!
4. fits in the pocket easier
5. Charges SUPER FAST
6. Light as air

Cons:

1. Loop broke within 1 week (no shocker, old style broke fast too)
2. Battery goes dead insanely fast, cant make it half the day!
3. Range is HORRIBLE (less than half the old version "about 5 feet clear 10ft scratchy with my Iphone 3G"
4. I think you have to turn on noise cancel every time,, or I'm doing something wrong.
5. Its almost too light! You forget you have it in your ear.

SUMMARY: This is an improvement over the old Jawbone which killed my ear, broke ear loops constantly,,, However, the decrease in range and battery life is a real killer. Be prepared to buy more earloops, complain to the company, and maybe even turn on the noise cancelling.

IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE NOISE CANCEL AND SEXY FACTOR, I WOULD GIVE IT A 1 STAR, but apple has shown us, you CAN take your customers for a ride if you just make it look good enough (i own 4 macs, no pc's)

Hope this helps :)

Most fabulous Bluetooth ever invented, 2008-08-28
The Jawbone is a great product. Fits well and is the best Blue tooth I have ever had. You can hear the person on the other end perfectly in the wind or with any back ground noise. I like the gold color because it is unique. I have had Motorola Blue tooth's and they have fallen apart.
