Product description

Elan Form gives triple protection for your iPhone 3G in a slim, no-clip design. Impact-resistant polycarbonate inner shell snaps snug around your iPhone. Top-grain leather, cut from premium, hand-matched hides, wraps the case in glove-soft luxury that you'll be proud to take anywhere. Rigid screen protector guards your touchscreen from smudges, scratches and fingerprints, but allows complete control of your iPhone.

User reviews

Great at first, didn't last long, 2008-12-26
I got this case about 6 months ago. Other than the screen protector that comes with the case (which is worthless and unnecessary) I loved the case. Fit tight, looked great, and the leather had a great feel that was neither too slippery or too sticky. Provided excellent protection - survived several drops with no damage.

But after a couple of months the lower half of the case started to loosen up and wiggle around - this was a little annoying but I lived with it. The loosening has gotten worse and now the leather has started to peel off the case on two corners. So time to ditch it and get a new case.

If you change your case every few months and are looking for a nice hard-shell leather case this is a great option, but if you want your case to last a while then look elsewhere.

Great looking, but with poor craftsmanship or materials, 2008-12-22
I had the Elan Form for my iPod Touch. I absolutely LOVED that case. In my opinion, it was the best looking one available. I was very excited to see that Griffin made one for the iPhone as well.

The Apple store near me did not have one in at the time I purchased my iPhone, so I purchased the Incase Slider Case for iPhone 3G - Black (CL59055) instead and then returned it in a week when the Griffin arrived. The Elan Form looks really nice. As other reviewers stated, the fit and finish around the edges is somewhat questionable. I still purchased it anyhow because it is such a good looking case. It has protected my iPhone well.

I have not noticed the scratches or other damage that some users have. I periodically take the case off to clean it and to make sure no dust has made its way inside the case. None so far.

The plastic screen protector, however, has developed some minor scratches and because it is not a static cling cover, dust does make its way under the protector from time to time. It is fairly easy to clean however. I am undecided whether I like this design better than a static cling one or not.

I only rate the case 3 stars because of the same problems with the leather peeling off that other users have experienced. I would have rated it 2 stars, but felt that was harsh considering the quality of other products from Griffin. The glue is weak and allows the leather to bunch up. This happens mostly as I am holding the phone to my ear for extended times. I DID take the leather off altogether. I am going to attempt to sand the plastic case to make it easier for glue to hold onto. I also am going to attempt to use a stronger glue for the leather. I hope that it works. If not, I will go back to the Incase Slider Case.

Griffin should look into their manufacturing of this case. I love all of their other products and have never had issues with any of them. I hope this review helps someone.

Good for Only 90 Days, 2008-12-07
This case for the iPhone 3G looks great and feels great in the hand. It also fits snugly and offers good protection for the phone. However, the leather covering is glued on with rather weak adhesive. It begins to soften after roughly 90 days, and then begins to peel easily. It is especially bad when the adhesive gets warm, such as when you keep it in your pocket like I do.

For a much better alternative, look at the Incase Slider Case Incase Slider Case for iPhone 3G - Black (CL59055). It has the same general look and form fitting style, but without the leather covering. It actually feels better in the hand than the Elan Form.

  decently protected from Clumzilla, 2008-11-28
I had bought this case the day I bought my phone. It was highly recommended by my salesperson for being durable, and I, being dubbed Clumzilla, bought it so I didn't break my phone leaving the store. I've dropped my phone quite a few times, and it's still working perfectly fine. The only thing I have a problem with is that the screen isn't as protected as I would like, and am therefore researching other cases, although I am quite happy with this one.

  Seems good at first..., 2008-11-26
I got this case when I originally bought my iPhone 3G 3 months ago. I liked it because it was very form fitting and felt very durable. The only problem I had with the case was when I had to take the phone out to clean the screen. It seemed like no matter how much I tried to be careful, I would hook the case on the silencer switch. And now my silencer switch has broken completely off. The phone is still under warranty and Apple is replacing it for me, but it really shouldn't be necessary. Also, this case does leave small scratch marks around the edges of the phone.

    Kogan Agora in Action

I hope I didn't mislead you with that title. This is not the mythical "G2," as in T-Mobile's G1 successor. This is, however, the "G2" as in the second Google Android phone to hit the market. Kogan's Agora and Agora Pro run Android and are set to ship at the end of this month. Here's some rather poor footage of what looks to be a rather awesome phone in action. I found this clip, I didn't shoot it - the video comes from YouTube user...

    iPhone as heart/cardio monitor

Working out has never given me big results, so I simply stopped. iPhone slideshows, Keynote app

Feeling let down about the keynote address at MacWorld? Yeah, me too. Phil Schiller did a decent job, but he’s not the showman that Steve Jobs is. And the biggest phone-related news had to do with DRM-free tunes and 3G music downloads. (While a step in the right direction, it’s certainly not game-changing — after all, Amazon has had DRM-less tunes for ages). Through all this, however, it may be easy to overlook that there were a couple of kinda...
