Product description

Stay on top of your text, email and instant messaging with the LG Rumor, which makes it easy to quickly communicate thanks to its slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Rumor is also a great choice for a cellular audio player, with wide multiformat support, a 2.5mm headphone jack, and up to 4 GB of storage via optional MicroSD memory cards. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets and dial-up networking, a 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder, real music ringtone support, and speakerphone capability. It works perfectly with Kajeet's kid-friendly pay-as-you-go service and it's GPS-capable, which provides compatibility with Kajeet's GPS Phone Locator Service as well as enable it to provide location information to a capable emergency service provider.

Kids love the cutting-edge integrated QWERTY keyboard, 1.3 megpixel camera/camcorder and built-in MP3 player.
About Kajeet
Kajeet was founded by three three dads figuring out how technology, kids and parents work best ("Kajeet" is an anagram of the first letters of the names of the company's founders' children). Kajeet's entire philosophy springs from a simple core idea: kids are smart. And they should be agile with technology, empowered and safe, and be able to respond with confidence to what's happening in their world.

Because having a cell phone is not just fun, it's a responsibility--a shared responsibility, Kajeet wants parents and guardians to be involved too. Thus, Kajeet is designed to incorporate a full suite of tools to help families customize and manage every aspect of their Kajeet experience. For more on Kajeet's pay-as-you-go charges and monthly voice and text plans, see the Kajeet Service section below.

Phone Features
The Rumor offers one touch access to messaging through a softkey from the idle screen and it automatically populates the messaging menu when the slider is opened. You'll enjoy easy access to personal email through familiar providers including Yahoo! AOL, Gmail and Microsoft Live. It also provides quick access to instant messaging services including AIM, MSN and Yahoo!. To personalize the text messaging experience, the Rumor offers the ability to assign "text tones" to address book entries for audible identification of text message senders.

Parents love the pay-as-you-go pricing, easy tools for customization and the ability to turn the phone off during school hours.
The Rumor's face has a 176 x 220-pixel LCD (262K colors), five-way navigation toggle, soft keys, and numeric keypad, and it smoothly slides open to the left to reveal the QWERTY keyboard (which automatically switches the screen to landscape mode). The internal phonebook has a 500 contact capacity, each with space for five phone numbers, email and Web addresses, and a memo. You can also assign a photo ID to a contact entry, as well as assign it to a group as well as to a specific ringtone.

The 1.3-megapixel camera provides three resolution options (1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and features up to a 15x digital zoom, brightness and white balance controls, self-timer, and in-phone image enhancement. It also provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). You can record video at two resolutions--176 x 144 and 128 x 96 pixels--at up to 2 hours for saving to memory card or in 10- or 20-second lengths for sending via messaging or email. Videos can be used as ringers and screen savers

Because the Rumor is Bluetooth enabled (version 2.0), wireless communication headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation. It also provides profiles for hands-free (v1.5), dial-up networking, object push, basic printing, file transfer, and phone book access. You can save up to 20 Bluetooth pairings.

Other features include:

  • Media player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, M4A, MID, AMR, QCP, 3GPP, MP4, 3G2, 3GPP, M4V, and PMD formats
  • Speed dial (98 entries + 1 voicemail default)
  • Built-in productivity tools allow you to access your planner and scheduler, check your task list and more; includes world clock, calculator, memo pad and alarm clock
  • USB wired connectivity to your PC, with mass storage capability
  • One-touch speakerphone
  • Voice Memos (up to 10 minutes; can be set as ringers)
  • 30 unique ringtones plus vibrate and silent modes
  • TTY/TDD support; M3/T3 hearing aid rating
  • Web browser: Infraware Polaris 5.01
  • Flight mode enables you to listen to music with cell radio turned off
  • T9 predictive text entry

Vital Statistics
The LG Rumor weighs 4.1 ounces and measures 4.3 x 2 x 0.7 inches. Its 950 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4.5 hours of talk time. It runs on the 850/1900 CDMA frequencies.

Kajeet Service
The Kajeet pay-as-you-go service delivers a full range of customizable voice, text, instant messaging and data services that enable kids to stay connected with family and friends. While kids will love the phones offered by Kajeet, parents will love the affordability of the Kajeet pay-as-you-go service with no long-term contracts, no activation or termination fees, and no roaming or extra long distance fees.

Choose pay-as-you-go flexibility, or select a Talk or Text Pak monthly plan.

With the GPS Locator plan, parents can get automatic location checks at specific times of the day.

Check out Kajeet's nationwide coverage with this larger version of the map above.
The exclusive Kajeet Configurator offers easy-to-use tools for both kids and parents, with such budget and usage management features like WalletManager, TimeManager, ContactManager and FeatureManager that enable tweens and their families to tailor the service to meet their specific needs. Wireless network coverage for Kajeet is provided by Sprint on its CDMA-based Nationwide Sprint PCS Network (check out the nationwide coverage map).

Kajeet's GPS Phone Locator service helps both kids and parents find the kajeet phone. It uses satellite technology to help find your child's phone and gives subscribing families easy-to-use information regarding the location of their kajeet phone via Web-based maps. Parents can schedule automatic location checks at specific times of the day, so they know where their kid's kajeet phone is at any given time--whether the phone is in their child's backpack on the school bus or in their sports bag at soccer practice. Kids can also use the service to help find their phone. The GPS Phone Locator service is is $9.99 per month.

With Kajeet, the money in your Kajeet wallet--paid in either as pay-as-you-go or as part of a monthly plan--can be used for whatever you want: texting, talking, games, ringtones and more. Plus, at no extra cost you get voicemail, caller ID, and some of the lowest talking and texting rates around. You can choose pure pay-as-you-go flexibility, and refill your wallet either online or using Kajeet refill cards (available at select retailers). You might also want to consider the value of a Talk and Text Pak plan. Each is good for one month, and if your kid uses it up before that, you can just pick up a new Pak and start fresh.

  Great Phone, 2009-01-08
We purchased this for our daughter's b-day. We decided to try Kajeet because we don't have a cell phone plan to add her to. This is the perfect phone for her! With Kajeet's parental controls we can "turn off" the phone during school hours, with the exception that we can still reach her in case of an emergency, or she can reach us. We can also see who is contacting her and give her a budget with the parent/child wallet system. We're very happy with this phone & so is she!!

Kajeet - so far so good., 2009-01-06
My teen wanted a phone, but pretty much all he does is text. This phone is perfect for that. The keyboard is easy to use. The graphics are good. The Kajeet service was easy to setup.

You can subscribe to a monthly talk pak, or go pay as you go. The minimum talk pak is about $5 for 10 minutes, but it really just takes care of the daily usage charge. Combine the minimum talk pak with a text pak (text paks don't cover the daily usage fee), and your teen will be set. Even if you subscribe to the minimum talk pak, after you use the 10 minutes, it works just as pay as you go without the daily usage charge. So it makes sense to add a talk pak.

With the wallet feature, you can give your child an allowance in their wallet, but still have money in your wallet. You can choose to pay for calls to/from your phone number(s) to the cell phone from your wallet, so you can always contact them without the need for them to have money in their wallet. And they can always call you. You can schedule automatic refills and monthly subscriptions.

You can schedule usage times for the phone, but add exceptions for specific phone numbers. Another nice feature for parents. Cut off usage at night or during school, but make an exception for your phone number. No texting during the night.

It uses the Sprint Network, so check Sprint's coverage area (Sprint's web site has better coverage maps).

Kajeet rebates are based on auto refill or subscriptions, so keep that in mind when you activate. I should have done a monthly subscription to unlimited texting when I activated.

Great Phone - Good Service, 2008-12-08
The phone was purchased for a 10 year old girl and she loves it. We haven't had any problems with the phone and we like the service that Kajeet provides. She is learning to budget her minutes and texts. Hopefully she will be prepared when she does get on our service.

Received Faulty Phone from Kajeet, 2008-11-18
The LG Rumor phone I received for my daughter's birthday present would not/could not connect to the Internet. Thus, it was not capable of downloading any contact/games. After many many contacts to Kajeet, I was given horrible customer service from their "operations" department. Long story short, it's been 2 months and nothing has been resolved as of yet. I can't believe for such an up and coming company who wants to get things right, got things so horribly wrong with their personnnel!

Had the phone worked properly, I would have given it 5 stars for tween use!!

  Perfect for our teenager!!, 2008-11-15
Our son loves the QWERTY slide out keyboard. WE LOVE THE GPS AND WALLET MANAGER! We have given a budget to him for his cellphone use, and chores too, so the parent/child wallet manager is really effective. No more surprise phone bills, and it so it keeps us both happy. The phone is durable too, and many cool phone covers to choose from on Amazon.com.
