Product description
Merging an innovative slider design with an impressive feature set, the MOTO RIZR Z3 marks Motorola's first venture into the slider-style GSM market. Stylishly wrapped in a package for fashion conscious consumers looking for style and portability, the MOTO RIZR is packed with all the latest mobile technology, including a 2-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth compatibility, an advanced music player, EDGE high-speed data capability, and more.
Design
The RIZR Z3 takes the standard slider-style form factor to the next level with a sleek profile, and a unique, spring assisted opening design. It also takes familiar style cues from the wildly popular RAZR flip-phone. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors dominates the top of the slider. The 2-megapixel camera lens is discreetly housed on the upper backside of the phone, safely tucked away until ready for use. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side for volume control while a voice button on the right side of the unit allows you to enter voice memos and create voice dialing profiles. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. A charging port and USB data cable port is placed on the bottom of the phone. Lastly, a memory card slot is included, allowing you to augment the RIZR's 23.5 MB of built-in memory.
Calling Features
The RIZR Z3's internal phone book can hold up to six phone numbers and three addresses per entry, while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that lets you mix your own ringtones. For times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear while voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. And because the RIZR Z3 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation. Lastly, the RIZR's voice dialing feature makes calling family, friends, and business associates as easy as saying their names.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The RIZR Z3 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client. The RIZR also comes stock with a built-in web browser for downloads and mobile web browsing.
iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. With its Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be easily used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs for high-speed data transfer over the supported EDGE network when coupled with a carrier data plan.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the RIZR Z3 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, and it can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.
Imaging and Entertainment
As mentioned, hidden behind the MOTO RIZR's eye-catching design is a powerful digital camera that features an LED flash, brightness control, and a night mode. With a dedicated side camera key and a landscape viewfinder mode, you can hold it and use it like a digital camera. Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or send them to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. Frame-worthy pictures be sent from the phone directly to your printer via PictBridge technology.
The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message, or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The RIZR Z3 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy.
When the feeling strikes you, jam out to your favorite music on the RIZR's advanced music player. And because the RIZR sports a convenient memory slot, you can bring along a ton of tunes--the unit supports cards up to 2 GB (memory cards sold separately). Lastly, Java support is built into the RIZR, making it a powerful gaming companion. You can also use the handset's USB data connection to load more games and files onto the phone.

User reviews

This phone is fantastic! It has a good heft in your hand so it doesn't feel dainty. The menus are intuitive & can be rearranged to fit your needs. The camera is sharp and the speakers seem to be able to make some noise. Lastly I love how they included a multiple number under one contact system, that makes my entry of numbers a lot simpler. I would definetly buy this phone again
They canceled my order?, 2007-12-04
I just received an email that my order was canceled. No explantion given. I placed the order on 11/26/07 and was notified on 12/04/07 that DBROTH has canceled my order.
experience with DB Roth/Motorola product, 2007-10-20
DB roth is good at response. When they found out the charger come with Moto Z3 has defect they sent me a partial refund on that charger real soon. The product were actually made in China, both phone set and charger, even they are Motorola. The quality is not that good any more. I'm very disappointed.
Randomly reboots!!, 2007-09-08
I got this phone in April and for about the first month I was quite pleased with it. It's slim, easy to use and is generally a nice phone. Then it started to randomly shut down and reboot while I read text messages, while I wrote text messages, while I looked to see what time it was, in the middle of conversations, and even while simply sliding the phone open. This happens about two times a week and it is very annoying. Other folks have posted this same defect online but T-Mobile refuses to acknowledge that there is anything wrong. I hate very few things in this world but right now I HATE THIS PHONE.
Great features, decent call quality, crappy OS., 2007-08-06
I've had this phone for about two months now and have only two complaints: average to good call clarity (I'd prefer excellent) and a crappy OS.
Call clarity is acceptable to good and volume is great. Battery life is average for a phone with this sort of feature set. It needs daily charging if you use it a lot.
Only major complaint: The operating system blows. I've had a longstanding allegiance to Nokia phones, which has only grown since switching to Motorola and realizing that the Nokia OS is often sensible where Motorola's is cumbersome. But I didn't like any of the new Nokia offerings and decided to give Moto a try. Moto OS is to Nokia OS as Windows 3.1 is to Mac OS X Tiger, which is to say I won't buy another Motorola if I can find a phone by another company that isn't ugly, has good call quality and decent battery life, and has the features I need or want.
Bluetooth works great. Expandable storage is lovely to have (though getting that little card out is a pain). Camera is top notch for a cell phone.
FYI: Purchased it locked from T-mobile but successfully unlocked it when I recently switched to ATT (Bought the code off Ebay).
