PhoneDog DogFight Part 2: iPhone vs Moto Droid We’re on the cusp of D-day (DROID day), and the Droid PR machine hasn’t let up. This is the recent commercial touting the device. Which one do you like better: This movie preview–style Stealth commercial or that now classic “iDon’t” ad? Noah tests out Google Maps Navigation Beta for Android 2.0. How? He fires up the Verizon Motorola Droid and goes in search of dessert, of course. Android 2.0. Noah gets the Moto Droid, unboxes it, and goes hands-on with Verizon's big, bad Android phone. When it comes to smartphones, a handset’s features can vary a lot depending on the apps you choose to download. Given this, I chose to focus more on the major built-in features of the Droid. Phone Calls: I wonder why so many reviews treat the number-one phone feature like an after-thought? So I’m going to begin this section with call clarity: Both for inbound and outbound, calls come through nicely, with decent audio, very little to... Sometimes I’m surprised by the number of people who choose phones based on looks. I shouldn’t be — I used to do the same thing. Actually, I still do, to some extent. If a phone has everything I want and need, but looks like a cellular version of Ugly Betty, I’m probably not going to haul that around for long. But does that make us superficial? Perhaps. Or maybe we’re not so wrong in this after all, since the form... Thanks to Best Buy Mobile (who have been supplying some of the devices we get to review), I got my hands on the Motorola Droid and have been playing with it for a couple weeks. So what follows are some of my impressions of the phone, strictly from the point of view of a person newly coming into this platform. At times, there may be an iPhone bent because, well, I can’t help but compare this to my own handset. Plus, those... Before I start, let me just say that I love my phone. Sure, the iPhone’s not perfect, and you may see me kvetch about its closed nature, baffling App Store approvals or hobbled features (tethering, anyone?), but in the end, I still love this handset. Lately though, with all the Android news bursting at the seams, I went beyond the Apple beat and pitched in to help cover it for PhoneDog.Wow, Android was like a strange land. Open source? Non...
While DroidDoes bash the iPhone, DroidDoesn't come close to the weekend sales numbers of the popular smartphone.
At least that's the estimate coming from Broadpoint AmTech analyst Mark McKechnie. According to his math, Verizon Wireless had approximately 200,000 Motorola Droid units available at launch, and the nation's largest wireless carrier was able to liquidate approximately half of their inventory last weekend.
“I see the first...
Despite the Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris being on the sales floor for just under a week, it appears that Verizon is preparing a software update for each. The OTA revision, which is rumored to hit on December 11th, is said to correct a number of known software issues with the two devices. I have to give credit to Verizon - instead of letting the issues spread, they're taking proactive steps to fix the reported problems.
Hit... I was an iphone 3gs user just switched to verizon because of coverage issues. When my iphone worked i loved it in particularly the directv nfl supercast app, espn app, pandora, bank apps. I am mainly a sports guy, followed by browser, and social. I just bought the droid but it is just too new and i dont think its going to be fully developed with the major sports apps that i demand within a year year and a half (atleast i have not...
