3 Skypephone: 3 and Skype announce handset for free skype calling

As expected, Skype and the UK mobile operator 3 today announced the 3 Skypephone, a mobile handset that offers free Skype to Skype calling and Skype instant messaging on the go.

The 3 Skypephone is a cell phone with 2MP camera, mp3 player, and 3G data services including mobile TV and internet, that also supports internet-based Skype functionality. Customers will subscribe to service plans for cellular-based voice and data functionality but will also be able to use Skype-based voice and text features for free.

3 Skypephone will be available on November 2 to customers in the UK at a price of £49. The handset is listed as Coming Soon in seven other countries, as well.
