(Fairmont, WV) Cellular One from Dobson Cellular Systems said today that it has donated $500.00 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central West Virginia, in conjunction with the addition of its newest cellular tower, recently constructed in Fairmont.
"When Cellular One has the good fortune to expand our network of towers throughout the country, we want to give back to those communities in which we serve," said Craig Davis, Cellular One spokesperson. "Big Brothers Big Sisters is a valuable and deserving entity, one which we are proud to support."
The new tower, which carries cutting-edge GSM technology, joins Cellular One’s existing and expanding network of towers throughout the country. GSM, the most popular digital format for wireless communication in the world, offers improved voice quality, fewer dropped calls, more coverage, and an ever-expanding array of data services. "Fairmont will enjoy increased coverage and capacity with this new tower," Davis said.
The new cell site, which is located on Hampton Road, will improve coverage north of Fairmont and along U.S. 250 West toward Barrackville. The highway is a major connector to Wheeling. Cellular One now has three cell sites in the Fairmont area and plans to turn on three more sites before the end of the year, he said.
Ms. Sylvia Hawkins from Big Brothers Big Sisters will be at the Cellular One store located at New Point Plaza, 518 Emily Drive in Clarksburg on Thursday, December 15, at 1:30 p.m. to receive the donation.
