Dare: LG Touchscreen Phone for VZW Available for $199

Noah Kravitz

by Noah Kravitz, Senior Editor, Consumer Products and Services
As expected, Verizon Wireless unleashed the LG Dare today.  The handset is now available via Verizon's online store for $199 after a $50 rebate with activation on a two-year plan.  Dare will also be available in retail outlets including VZW stores in Circuit City starting next Thursday, July 3.

We've covered Dare quite a bit already in these pages so I won't go into too much more detail here, except to say that I wish they'd gone with a true Xenon flash instead of an LED flash on the camera.  But hey, LED's better than nothing.  I guess I can be bothered to cut and paste the full spec sheet from the press release, too.  More just as soon as I get my paws on a review sample.

From the Press Release:

The LG Dare’s touch-screen offers the optimal HTML Web browsing experience and runs on the nation’s most reliable wireless network to ensure a smooth and easy navigation experience.  The touch-screen also supports handwriting recognition and tactile feedback so that customers can more easily select their options on the phone.  The phone’s camera has a Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens for outstanding image quality, and the camera offers advanced features, such as face detection and an LED flash so customers can take enhanced-quality photos from their mobile phones.  Additionally, customers can use the photo editing tool to personalize their digital photos with features that include borders and landscapes, and they can draw on their pictures directly on the screen using their fingertips.

Additional features and capabilities of LG Dare include:

  • V CAST Music-capable – access more than 3 million full-length songs from well-known and independent artists that can be purchased and downloaded over-the-air directly to the phone

Sunday, June 29, 2008I ended up ordering this phone on Thurs and received it Friday the 27th. All features are awesome and the pictures turn out great! Very user friendly and I love the way I can customize it. Only thing that would make it better, not that its lacking in any area would be to have a stylus, just as a optional tool if you wanted to use it and better sound record quality on video (something similar to the recorder on Sony camera's). If they did that, it would be perfect!!! I love editing the pics on the phone and also getting pics from captured video. Try it out! This is the best cell phone on the market by far right now. Competitors have a lot to tend with, when it comes to this tech toy.

Noah Answers Your Questions - Comparing the LG Dare & Samsung Instinct

Q. Hi, I saw your comparisons of the LG Dare and Samsung Instinct and I had some more questions about the two. I have some specific questions for the two phones that I'd like some answers to 1. Which touchscreen is better? Which is more responsive? When you're typing which screen works better?  I've heard ppl vouch for both sides so I'd like a good extensive opinion from an actual reviewer. 2. Which browser is better? Because I've...

Noah Answers Your Questions - LG Dare or iPhone?

Q. Noah, I am a first time visitor to your sight, and I love it. I've been anxiously awaiting the launch of the new iPhone.  I ended up ordering one from an AT&T store the weekend of the launch while also researching the LG Dare. I am currently a Verizon customer and now need to decide before picking up the iPhone if I should go with the LG Dare. It seems like GPS and phone are better, and with my credits I can get a Dare for $149. The...

Good Times: Is the American Cell Phone Market Finally Maturing?

Cell phone junkies - or anyone who's spent any time in Europe, Korea, or Japan - will tell you that the U.S. cell phone market lags almost hopelessly behind its global counterparts.  The American market is tightly controlled by the network operators, and half of US phones run on a proprietary standard incompatible with most of the world's networks (CDMA, used by Verizon and Sprint), a combination that's long resulted in a lack of options...

Question on LG Dare

I just got this phone recently (and loving it) and wanted to change the ringtonesI already made a file for the ringtone and it is on my playlist, and I was wondering how can I make that song to be my ringtone

LG Dare or LG Voyager considering your uses...

personally, i have the LG VX 8700 right now, and i am about to get the Dare, but anyways, i would not get the LG VX8700 because it can lag sometimes and (from what i have experienced) just close/shutdown by itself.  Considering your uses, i would go with the LG Voyager for its full QWERTY keyboard, or the LG Dare because of the virtual QWERTY keyboard, and the unique/cool features.hope this helps...

Dare

First of all, STOP SAYING GET THE GLYDE! because the touch screen on that phone is so finiky and unresponsive!  But i would get the Dare because it is on the amazing Verizon Network, and i like the all around look better than the Instinct.  but then again it is a personal chioce. If you need a phone more for work (e-mail, calendar, etc.) then get the instinct, but if not, get the Dare.Hope this helps...
