Goodbye MOTO? Analysts claims Motorola leaving handset business

I call "Dude, stop it," on this one.  Nomura International analyst Richard Windsor told his clients that Motorola might just be leaving the consumer handset sector entirely to focus on "enterprise and government."  Windsor's comment, published in a research note on Tuesday, was picked up by MarketWatch and Engadget, amongst others, which leads me to one important question:

Do analysts get paid more than bloggers?  If so, where do I sign up?  If I can get paid more to make stuff up entirely than to actually try to combine reporting with analysis, I'm there!  Seriously, try Googling for "Apple rumors analyst accuracy," and see what you get.  Amazing.

MOTO needs some help, but dropping entirely out of an industry they once (not so long ago) dominated is not the answer.  MOTO needs new management.  They need savvy marketing, they need better product strategy and industry vision, and they need to get past the whole, "We'll just keep making RAZRs in new colors and sell 'em for cheaper!" strategy that's defined their recent history.  But they do not need to exit the handset business, no matter what What's-His-Name-the-Analyst decided to advise his clients.
