My nitty gritty Hero post

My nitty gritty Hero post

While I'm definitely not tired of HTC's Hero, I needed to write about a couple of other things real quick before coming back at you with the full specs and PR photos. We can speculate on the carrier and talk about Sense later. This post is about the hardware. Folks looking for this probably want to get straight to the menu, so let's do it; straight dope, no filler. Well, no more verbiage, anyway.

And just in case anybody think's I pulled off a post without doing anything but copying and pasting a press kit, allow me to wildly speculate that the feature which makes the US version of Hero different from that of Europe and Asia, could go beyond color. The US Hero may be the first phone to ship with Donut. I pulled that out of thin air, just so you know.

Why is shutter speed never posted under camera info?!

why have that kink at the bottom of the phone, that ruined my interest in it. How pocketable will that be??

Seeing how the chin is set at a small angle, I'd think it's very pocketable. I think it was Horace Luke, if I'm correct, who said that the angled chin is suppose to help with the viewing angle, as well as bring comfort to the positioning of your thumb when using the nav controls and track-ball.

John is absolutely correct. It's wise not to fall in love with this device yet (as difficult as that is proving to be). We all know how US Mobile carriers like to rape the hell out of great products.

can you put the g1 and hero on a side by side to see the difference between the phones

The main thing about Donut is WVGA resolution support. So, naturally one would expect Donut to ship on a WVGA device.

Sorry, but this is like suggesting Cupcake (onscreen qwerty) will ship on non-touchscreen device.

Well actually I bet cupcake would ship on a non touchscreen device it just wouldn't have access to the on screen keyboard. Cupcake isn't just for touch screen phones its the newest version of Android just like Symbian S60 isn't for just non touch phones anymore since it has been touch optimized.

I think the myTouch looks more sexier then this. I am sure there will be some hacker out there who will find a way to put all of the Hero features on the myTouch, so I am sticking with myTouch 3G.

I was really hoping for something more in-depth (e.g. no one has talked about the actual quality of the camera yet!) so fingers crossed for a 'nittier, grittier Hero post' in the future please? :)

@robnaj: No offence meant in any way, but have you considered checking your spelling before you post? That many errors really makes any comment seem quite suspect.

However, it is true that the phone will be available via Orange UK's network from July for free (40 pound per month, 24 month contract) and you can also buy it from Amazon.co.uk sim-free as well.

I wish I could provide my take on the cam and other features, but until I get one in my hands, at home, I won't be able to. At 7 bills, I think I'm going to have to wait for a review unit.

If I get one, I promise lots of coverage - video and written.

I love android very much, and especially love the sense ui for the hero, but i do not understand if the hero will get updates the same way as the G1. If it is released with cupcake, will it eventually get the donut update with all the same features the donut update will include on the other android devices (my touch 3g, i7500, magic, G1...)?

Keep the HTC Hero info coming. Great job with the 3 part video interview on YouTube. Never heard of your site until I searched for HTC Hero. Will have to revisit to see if you find more info.
