Nokia: Mobile Remade

CTIA 2008 in Las Vegas brought a lot of cool product introductions, including the highly touted Samsung Instinct, which is following in the footsteps of the Helio Ocean ($174) being touted as the "iPhone Killer."

But, I have to say that my favorite device of the entire show, was the Nokia Remade – a purely concept device that doesn't make a single call or even send texts. Announced at the end of last year, the Remade is a slight yellow and silver clamshell that is made entirely of recycled cans and tires. In fact, inside out, the handset is made from previously used parts.

For a working Nokia model that's a little greener, check out the 3110 Evolve, the company's tri-band GSM device that is made with bio-covers from more than 50% renewable material. Even the device packaging is made of 60% recycled content and comes with Nokia's most energy efficient charger that uses 94% less energy than the Energy Star requirements according to the company.

Aside from the eco-factor, however, the Evolve, a revamp of the 3110 candy bar style handset, is fairly basic but solid. It comes with Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player, built in FM radio, expandable memory and gets approximately 4 hours of talk time.

Video: Sprint Samsung Instinct Review: GPS, Visual Voicemail, Calendar
One last Instinct video covering GPS, Visual Voicemail, and the Calendar. Overall it's a really solid phone. And at $129? Best value goin' for Sprint customers wanting a high-end device. Too bad there's no calendar synching, though.

The Sound of Money: Sprint's Selling Loads of Instincts

The Sound of Money: Sprints Selling Loads of Instincts
Given that the Samsung Instinct is Sprint's flashiest, most hyped device ever, has received mainly good reviews since it launched a week ago, and was priced at a bargain basement $129 on contract, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise.  Sprint sent out word this morning that Instinct's broken all sorts of sales records in its first week on the shelves, and word around the InterWeb is that the handset is sold out all over the place. “We had high expectations going into the launch...

Instinct vs iPhone: A Few Thoughts on How To Read/Watch a Review

Instinct vs iPhone: A Few Thoughts on How To Read/Watch a Review
Things have been busy over in YouTube land lately, which is great.  And while I can't read all of the comments on every video, once in awhile I scan through to see what people wish I'd done differently or would do next time in a video (seriously, have you ever tried reading YouTube comments on a regular basis?).Seems like comparison videos are popular, so I'll keep those coming.  Seems like Instinct and iPhone are popular, as well, and of course there's the requisite fanbody-dom...

$129 Instinct: Sprint Prices Instinct Aggressively to Compete With iPhone

$129 Instinct: Sprint Prices Instinct Aggressively to Compete With iPhone
Just got word across the wire that Sprint will be selling Instinct for the super low price of $129.99 after rebate with a two-year contract.  The phone must be used on a Sprint Simply Everything plan, which includes unlimited Web, Email, GPS, Sprint TV Premiere, and other services; Simply Everything plans start at $69.99 for 450 monthly voice minutes.  An unlimited plan is available for $99.99/month. Frankly, I was expecting Instinct to come in around $199 so this comes as a bit of...

iPhone 3G: Apple vs the World

iPhone 3G: Apple vs the World
Apple may have disappointed some phone geeks by leaving a few badly wanted features off of the new iPhone 3G, but in typical Apple fashion they're looking past the specific desires of a few in order to set their sights squarely on luring more of the masses into the Cult of iPhone.  Could Apple have added MMS messaging, stereo Bluetooth support, and a decent camera (with flash) to the new iPhone's redesign without sacrificing the grander scheme surrounding the App Store, enterprise...

Instinct Mini-Review : Is it Any Good?

Instinct Mini-Review : Is it Any Good?
I spent my whole weekend playing with Sprint's new Samsung Instinct.  Why?  'Cause you can't get it yet (it goes on sale June 20) and I wanted to be able to tell you all about it.  So what's my opinion so far?  Instinct's a good phone - maybe even very good.  It does more than iPhone (for now) but it's not as responsive or fun to use as Apple's baby.  Why?  Two reasons: 1. Multitouch display.  Instinct's touchscreen is really pretty good, but it's no...
