Looks like the end is near for Helio and all you Helionauts, I'm sad to say.  Ryan Block - the Editor in Chief of Engadget Ryan Block - just reported that Helio store managers are being notified that Virgin will be shuttering the doors on some, or possibly all, of Helio's retail outlets across the country as part of their takeover of the copmany.  Furthermore it looks like Virgin will simply absorb all that is Helio, doing away with the Helio brand in the process.

No word yet on when this is all going down and what it will mean for current Helio subscribers, let alone that Ocean 2 handset that's already been spied in the halls of the FCC.  More as we get it...

Monday, July 07, 2008i just bought the ocean and i was wondering if that means now virgin mobile is going to be my service. When i get my bill in the mail is it going to say virgin and will virgin mobile keep all of the cool features that helio has presented as a phone company?

Monday, July 07, 2008WTF! My Samsung Drift phone with Helio's service was the best phone and plan I've had for the price I payed. A new phone costed (and still does) around $50... the cheapest plan (which is more than enough for me) is still $65 a month.... that includes: Unlimited 3G data, texting, maps, email, web browsing, etc... solid call quality everywhere I went, don't recall a single dropped call for the past year (Yes, everyone else wished they had 3G back then for the same price a year since!!) google maps with GPS positioning and directions saved my butt several times...latest features include turn-by-turn Garmin, all that for $65 a month was... and still is.. way worth it. Had the phone for a year and it is still rock-solid. Thankfully I only had to deal with customer service once, when I activated the phone. I wish other providers had close to that kind of cheap, feature rich monthy plan. AT&T and T-Mobile charges minum $30 for comparative feature set. Oh well... you will be missed Helio.

Friday, June 27, 2008Death to Helio, the biggest POS, waste of money, poor 'service' providing, non-english speaking customer 'service' rep providing, breaking devices, lame as company of all time! Good riddance, Helio, HELLO iPHONE!

OZ2 : Helio Ocean 2 - Photos and Specs

OZ2 : Helio Ocean 2 - Photos and Specs
At long last some news on the forthcoming sequel to Helio's flagship device: The Ocean 2, aka OZ2.  The notable changes seem to be on the inside, as OZ2 rocks the same dual slider form factor as the original and looks to be more or less the same size, if a little more rounded and futuristic looking.  Honestly, it's hard to tell from the sole photo that hit the Web over on Engadget Mobile. What's easier to get a read on are Ocean 2's...

The Worst? Helio customer service needs big-time help

The Worst? Helio customer service needs big-time help
Normally I try to remain neutral about cellular carriers and equipment manufacturers, and keep my commentary to objective handset reviews and information regarding rate plans, new services, and such.  But given my own recent experiences with Helio and the growing displeasure expressed by their customers around the Web, I felt compelled to mention this to any of you considering signing up with Helio:  Helio's customer service is the...

Pantech Ocean in-depth review - Introduction & Design

Pantech Ocean Introduction & Design
Earlier this year, Helio CEO Sky Dayton said that the Ocean is the phone he "dreamt of making" when he first took over as the MVNO's chief executive.  The Helio-designed, Pantech-built Ocean has also been near the top of my - and every other phone reviewer's - "can't wait for it" list since it was announced.  Featuring a unique dual-slider design affording dedicated QWERTY and dialing pads, a 2mp camera, media player, and...

Part 1 of Noah's Ocean cell phone review. The Helio Ocean has arrived at Noah's and he takes you through the "un-boxing" of the device and all of the included equipment.  Stay tuned for more videos about the Ocean device as Noah has time to learn what it can do!

The Ocean is here today!

The much anticipated Helio Ocean is now available. Although today is the first day of availablitiy it still may be hard to get your hands on. Helio’s website is offering the phone for only $295 with a new plan. The Helio Ocean is a spectacular phone and what makes it so brilliant is the dual slider. You can slide out like your average slider phone to reveal the numeric keypad or you can slide out sideways to reveal the QWERTY keyboard! ...

PWN the iPhone: Helio Ocean to drop soon?

Forget the iPhone - this season's real mobile prize might just be the Helio Ocean.  And it looks like Helio may be getting close to a full month's jump on the impossible task of stealing some of Cupertino's cell phone thunder. The Helio Ocean will pack separate slider boards for dialing and texting, as well as 3G data (via Sprint), and a completely redesigned Helio user interface featuring what some claim is the best Web browser ever to...

Re: Helio Ocean review

I have noticed that the space bar on the qwerty keypad is small, does it bother you?

Re: Sidekick LX VS Helio Ocean

This might be a good time to go with Helio because the deposit amount is waived as part of a special limited time offer.  You can find out more by going to the following link:  http://www.heliobuy.com/helio-no-deposit-promo.html

Re: Sidekick LX VS Helio Ocean
The Helio Ocean is a far better phone, but you have to make sure the service is available in your area. Helio is known for having poor customer service (long hold times).
How would I check that? I live in Portland, Oregon

The Helio Ocean is a far better phone, but you have to make sure the service is available in your area. Helio is known for having poor customer service (long hold times).  Here is the link to Noah's review of the Ocean -> http://www.phonedog.com/cell-phone-reviews/pantech-ocean/introduction-design-102435.aspx Click on the link below to compare them side to side...
