Sign O' the times: FCC prepping nationwide SMS-based alert systemThe FCC approved a nationwide alert system that would send text messages to cell phones and other mobile devices in the event of an emergency. According to CNN Money, an FCC representative said that cell phone companies can voluntarily opt into the system. The report went on to say that all four major US carriers stated they'd be "likely" to opt in if and when the system is made real.
