Small phones are big with regional carriers

Small phones are big with regional carriers

Ain't it cute? The wee Motorola QA30 Hint made its little way from regional carrier Alltel to two others: MetroPCS and Cricket.

The portrait-sliding Hint — which measures just 3.23 by 2.43 inches (closed) — is teeny tiny. But somehow, the phone designers crammed in a full QWERTY keyboard and a large 2.5-inch QVGA display, as well as 2 MP camcorder/camera and 140MB of built-in memory storage with microSD expansion.

I’ve heard some rumors about the texting being a little buggy, and it can’t run YouTube clips, but even so, it seems a lot of users still love the compact size and features this little guy offers.

I’m suddenly reminded of the Zoolander phone, though with the Hint, you don’t have to be really, really ridiculously good-looking to own one. You just need $249 bucks to pick it up contract-free at the MetroPCS website.  Interestingly, Cricket’s offering the little contract-free guy for about 20 bucks less, at $229.99.

In other Cricket news, the slim little Nokia 3606 has also jumped on board the carrier’s lineup. The flippie may not be a new handset, but it’s new to Cricket, which is offering the device for $139.99, after discounts.

The quad-band CDMA phone sports a 2-inch 220 x 176 internal display, 1.3 MP camera, stereo Bluetooth, music playback, and microSD slot. So, it’s not a high-end device, but if you’re interested in a decent brand with good looks, along with mid-range functionality and price point to match, then this lean, light machine might be worth a look.

Remember the Pantech C300? (Google it!) That thing was tiny! It's a clamshell that's 2.72 inches by 1.69 inches by .76 inches, Cingular had it out a couple years ago, it's tiny and ugly!!
